The Sims 2

Review by Monstro_Man

"Running a hotel is hard work. Playing video games shouldn't be."

I had played The Sims 2 or the PS2 at a friend's house and loved it, so when I saw this at the electronics section of Atlantic Superstore for $18 Canadian, I was overcome with joy. How was I supposed to know it was a completely different and totally pathetic attempt at a game?

The graphics are bad even for a DS game. The textures are bland and EXTREMELY pixelated. The walking animations are also pretty awkward. The character models themselves aren't bad, though.

In the game, you run your own hotel. You'll be given the most tedious of tasks such as walking to the store, buying something and walking back, waiting until nighttime and walking into the desert, or walking to the desert, picking up a piece of furniture and placing it in a guest's room. Occasionally you'll get a call asking you to fix a guest's plumbing, and there's no way to fix it, nor is there actually any problem. Your hotel is given a score from 1%-100% based on how well your hotel is doing. You need to maintain your hotel to make sure it stays high- or so the game tells you. Once you buy all the rooms, your hotel score is automatically 100%, no matter how crappy your hotel actually is. One of the characters actually disappears completely after a certain point. if you try to call him, he'll tell you he's in City Hall, but he's not. He just vanishes into thin air.

The story makes absolutely no sense. For the first part of the game, a mob boss commandeers your largest guest room and gives you boring little errands until he gets caught by the FBI. After that, another person takes it over and the story starts from scratch and none of those previous events ever come back into the storyline. There are bizarre characters such as a giant mole creature who has about 3 lines and is completely unimportant, a sasquatch, an evil robot, and

Overall, this is a very tedious, glitchy game that's not worth the small amount of money you'll be paying for it. You might want to rent it to see just how bad of a game it really is, but you'll regret it very quickly.
