Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2007
Review by Matiels
"A Yu-Gi-Oh! for tomorrow."
Well, here we go, this is my first review on GameFaqs so I hope it's a good one.
To start off, Yu-Gi-Oh! has always been one of those series, you either like it or you don't. Well I happened to like it and have tried everything from Eternal Duelist Soul to Kingdom of the Rose. (< Hey it rhymes!) Still most games created have been eluded by that essence that made the series so great. This one comes pretty close though.
Kicking right off, you can create your own character, now I don't know about you, but this is a big relief to me. Early on when I found out that I wouldn't be playing as Yugi or some other main character, I had a hard time imagining my self at a table playing cards with a spiky haired alter ego/pharaoh guy. So once I created my character, I took my first steps into the game.
In comparison to last years WC 2006 the card list has been severely reduced however they have been replaced by full 3-d monster graphics for each card. Each monster (that I've seen so far) has a significantly different attack and defense position. This is a nice feature, and while it's true that some attack animations would have been nice, I'm satisfied with the what they gave me....for now.
The opponent monster sprites have also taken a significant upgrade, which is easy on the eyes but not jump out of your seat kinda deal. Still I had yet to dive into the world of Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi USB connector was on the way in the mail)
May 27, 2007, that's when I realized this was the right direction to take this series. Wi-Fi is an incredible experience, sure the computer is challenging, but facing off against different people with different hair styles and colors, is just too much fun. Of course I have won a duel yet, but I'm getting there.
All in all, this game gets an 8. It could be improved in little areas such as, *maybe* Some key monsters have attack animations or maybe a duelist cutaway when using a special monster of some sort. But still, this is enough to hold me over until the next go round
