Transformers: Decepticons
Review by Tifanity
"Decepticons Superior, Autotbots Inferior"
Transfomers the Decepticons, for the DS? I will admit I was worried when I saw this out, I mean usually movie games are terrible right?. But because of being such a huge fan, I decided to try it out.
For this review, I will be doing a new layout. Just keeping it simple, because I don't want to ruin too much.
Storyline:
When the game starts, you aren't given any well known Decepticon character to use. Instead you are given a choice to name your own! Ever wanted to name your own Decepticon? Well now you can. You are briefed on your mission by a familiar Decepticon and there is an actual training area unlike the console versions. So you can imagine how I reacted when I played this, I loved it already.
Now, the game follows the movie, you are in search of the Allspark meanwhile helping your fellow comrades cause destruction. Now the best part is, when you get to the parts in the game that was in the movie, you get to use those Decepticons. So, Blackout, Starscream and even Brawl is usable and again, another more reason it is better than the consoles.
Game play:
When you first arrive on earth with your custom Decepticon, you have no form. The game offers you a scan option where you can scan a car, truck, van, helicopter and plane. So you can actually transform into tons of stuff while each has it's benefits and their downsides. An example of this is when something is fast, the armor is weak. When something is slow, the attack is greater. Knowing what to use depending on the situation is important.
You are also given four icons on the top right hand corner. Every time the threat level goes up, you get an icon. What happens when you reach level 4? Choppers, tanks, police cars and Autobots attack the living hell out of you. You are able to bring down the threat by not attacking or destroying anything but you are a Decepticon, why would you ever do that?
So what do you do in this game you ask? You are given missions and submissions. Some are simply driving or flying to a point while others need you to destroy a certain amount of stuff or kill your enemies. At the end, it all merges with the story line.
Controls:
I have to say the controls for this game is perfect, well at least to me. Your shoulder buttons are your camera and by pressing both resets the camera straight. You have your jump, your attack and fire weapon. The touchscreen is used to transform and scan. Your character responds greatly and fighting isn't so bad compared to the Wii version. You don't have your camera going crazy leaving your frustrated and annoyed. One thing I dislike is the fact you can't block unlike the Wii version.
Music:
The music isn't the best aspect of this game, but it does have its moments. It sounds cheesy sometimes but it is bearable. For both reviews, this and the Wii version, you notice I don't talk about the music much, it shows there really isn't much to talk about.
Flaws:
The enemies that you fight are extremely annoying, you have fire coming from all the directions and some of them really pack a punch. You also aren't given a lot of health items so you will either die before you can get away or you will find yourself running away like crazy. Besides this, well and the inability to block, this game is nearly perfect.
Replay Value:
Yes, this game has a multi player where you can fight others around the world and just have one heck of a good time. Up to four players can go at it at once from the Autobots version or this version. You can also download and complete challenges for the version you like to win the battle, now that is pretty cool. Which side would you choose at the end?
In Closing:
If you own a DS and if you loved the movie or just like Transformers in general, buy this game. If you like the Decepticons, that is another reason to get this game. For the price, this game is fair. You are given a lot of content and is well worth your money. When you are done with this version, invest on the Autobots, you won't be sorry.
