Yu-Gi-Oh! GX: Spirit Caller
Review by chocoboblue99
"It takes 3 months or more to do everything!!!"
I give this game a 5. It's not good but not bad. It's just okay.
I start with the positives. First, designing your own character at the beginning. Second, an option to play online. Third, the ability to join up new spirits. Forth, you can have and make so many decks. Fifth, well balance controls.
What's okay about the game? Well the story isn't that bad. You don't need to watch the show anymore, you just need to play this game. I have seen the whole show and this game does a great summary of the show. :)
Another okay thing is the game has animation on certain cards. The animation is pretty good when you see it for the first few times. Then, it kind of gets boring when you see them after that.
Now for the bad parts about the game. There many things I can say about this game that I don't like. First, the designing your own character is great but there's no option to be a girl. I'm not a girl, but I know some people would still want to play as a girl. That's because there are lots of female players that play this game. Gender bias? Yes in this game.
Second, the option to play online is good idea, but lots of people don't want to play because there are too many cheaters with Action reply codes and win automatically. Also, some players just disconnect when they are about to lose too, which makes the whole dual a waste of time for the winner of the dual because he doesn't get any points for dual.
Third, this game is too random!!! That's what I feel is the most worse part of the game. Almost everything is random. Getting spirits, getting dual disks, clothes, people, and cards is all so random! You probably going to face a person at 50 times to get everything from that person. Sometimes, you might have to face the same person over 200 times before they want to give you what you want them to. Really! 200 times! I'm not kidding that's the sad part. :(
Fourth, do we really need to spend that much that in school? On Mondays, we have a test every week. The test is only for one thing and that is to get all ten questions right and get the study king title. After getting the title, there is no need for that test and we should not need to take it anymore. This one test slows down the whole game play every week.
Furthermore, why do we need the animation to going to school? That whole process of going to school in the morning waste time and we don't need to see that. Then, when we finish school, we actually wasted game play time and can only get in 2 to 4 duals per day. That's not enough dueling time for most people.
Also, there no option to turn off the certain cards animation. If we can turn off just some of the animation this game would be a whole lot better. There also, needs to be an option to speed up game play. When your at the end of the game, you just wish there was an option to speed things up. You don't care that it's the draw phase or any other phase, and you don't want to see those words appear on the screen. You already know what phase you are entering, and you don't need to see the words appear.
Alright, so this game has it flaws. I mainly went off with the flaws because this game has so much of it. I know I'm not the only one because I read the message board on here almost every day. But don't get me wrong, this game has good stuff too. It's just the good doesn't out do the bad. I'm just saying, you should know what you are going to get into tyring to play this game. At the very least, you should take 3 months trying to do everything! You could be the story mode in 3 days. But to do everything in the game? That takes months!
Right now, as I am writing this, I'm still not done with the game yet. I have played this game for almost 350 hours and almost level 50. I don't know if anyone has beating this game fully yet, but I'm trying to do that. I'm almost there; just a few more spirits and cards and I'm done! :)
