Kirby Squeak Squad
Review by pointybagels
"Good, but could be better"
This is certainly a great game, believe me, but it's very short. My brother got all of the treasure chests in about 6 hours, but it is definitely worth buying or renting.
Graphics 8/10
The graphics are the same as they've been in every Kirby platformer. They're good but I think that Nintendo could've done things like add shadows and stuff. Nintendo should have been more innovative. On the bright side the animation is great and it never glitches.
Sound 9/10
The music is really nice, but it can get stuck in your head if you listen to it for too long. Here's that innovation problem again. Kirby needs some new music. It's been the same music since Kirby's Adventure for the NES. But the other sounds are great and very realistic. Much better than you'd expect from a platformer.
Gameplay 5/10
The controls are the same, very easy controls they've always been. That's a good thing. The idea of finding treasure chests was a great idea, but Nintendo should have elaborated more, much more. Most of the chests are easy to find, if not in plain view. A new addition to this game is mixing copy abilities found in bubbles. Unfortunately, almost all of the combinations will result in a random copy ability. How good the results are is for the most part positively influenced by how long you drag around the bubbles. I think Nintendo should have made the mixing two certain copy abilities always get the same result as it did the last time you mixed those two abilities.
Mini Games 7/10
The mini games aren't that great, but what should you expect, they're MINI games. They're very easy, but they could pose a challenge on level 3. The worst part of multiplayer is that all you can do is play the mini games. This is a huge disappointment. In Nightmare in Dream Land you could play multiplayer story mode. Why shouldn't you be able to in this game.
Replayability 7/10
The replayability of this game may be its worst part. Even in a new file the replayability is horrible once you know where the chests are. (Even though they were in plain view to start with.) Another thing is that the secrets used to keep you playing for hours on end in the other Kirby games. Not in this one. I played through all of the levels not even trying the next one until I got all of the treasure chests in the previous one. Couldn't Nintendo have made some real secrets? On a positive note at least it is possible to collect the chests as many times as you wish in the same file.
Multiplayer 3/10
The multiplayer is horrible because there is no cooperative story mode. Like I said before all you can do is mini games. and also as I said before the mini games aren't much.
Final score 7/10
So as harsh as my review was, it really does measure up to the other Kirby games. Not by much, but it definitely measures up to the other games. So my final score was a 7. Even that may be a little harsh. So if you ever find Kirby Squeak Squad on a shelf, be sure to pick it up and give it a try.
