Custom Robo Arena

Review by gigasguy

"One of the most amazing games the DS will ever have!"

Custom Robo Arena is definitely one of the funnest games I've ever played! In my opinion, it is extremely underrated. This is an honest review by me...

Story
As soon as you start story mode, you are fighting a huge tank! This is just to show you how the controls are in the game. Your robo has no chance against the big tank robo! Oh no! Your robo's about to get smashed! You wake up. It was all a dream.

You just moved to a new town. Since your birthday was yesterday, your dad gives you your very own custom robo! He works for a company that designs custom robos, and that is one of his newest models.

You go to school and fight some bullies in a custom robo match. Dennis and Liv see you fighting them. Dennis and Liv invite you to join their custom robo team. You accept.

So what's your goal in this game? To become robo cup champ!
Sadly, the story is only about 15 hours long... But then you got to complete a lot more, harder, matches. And you also have to collect all the stages, parts, and dioramas. (Where you can pose your Robo) All that adds up to about 50 hours!

Game play and controls
You battle other robos with your own custom robo. But, the cool thing about this game is that you can design your own robo! Choose from about 50 different kinds of Robo Bodies, Guns, Bombs, Pods, and Legs! Having about 50 in each category makes almost limitless possibilities!

The controls are also awesome. A for jump, B for gun, X to ram your opponent, L to shoot your pods, and R to shoot your Bombs. Don't Like these controls? No problem, there are four different control settings!

You use the stylus to enter your name, customise your robo, clean your robo, and soul boost. Not much, but it still makes use of both screens.

Each robo starts out with 1,000 HP. To win the fight, get their HP down to zero.

Music and sound affects
In this game, it's mostly just metal guitar for the music. If you don't like it, just turn the sound off. Each different gun, bomb, ram, and pod makes a different sound. The music may get repetitive, but you really won't even notice it.

Multi-player and Wi-Fi
In my opinion, and many others, this is the game's strongest category. You each customise. While you customise, you can talk to each other through the mic. Then for the first match, you each choose a stage. It's a 50% chance that yours will be chosen. Then you fight. The loser picks a stage, then you customise and fight again. It's best 2 out of 3. Then you can always play again. This game has Multi-Card, Single-Card, And Wi-Fi.

How long and how much replay-ability?
This game's story is about 15 hours long, but with another 40 hours in replay-ability. After you do get 100%, you'll want to play it more, because this game never gets boring! Also, if you have wi-fi, then you can play with anybody anytime! There is no downside here!

So these are my scores for each...

Story - 9/10 it may be short, but there's a lot to do after it.
Game play - 10/10 one of the best styles I've ever seen.
Music and sound affects - 9/10 Not the best, but I'm not complaining.
Multi-player and Wi-Fi - 10/10 One of the best multi-player games ever!
How long and how much replayability? - 10/10 No downside here.
Final - 10 (rounded) This game is one of my favorites. I hope everyone likes it as much as me!
Buy or Rent? Buy! You won't have enough time to 100% this game unless you buy!
