Worms: Open Warfare
Review by Hasterz
"Failed to follow legacy of the series"
Worms, already having published many series, are one of the well-known turn based strategy games. In this game you have to kill opposing teams of worms using variety of weaponary, always different development encouraging you to get addicted. Unfortunately, I could not say the same for the DS version.
As the worms was my favourite game in the childhood, I was intruged to buy this game mindlessly when I saw it in the shelves. It was a terrible mistake.
Despite Worms; Open Warfare successfully transfers the playability the original worms game promises, two important factor has lendered this game obsolete, great failure.
First is lack of Wifi function and poor multi-player system. One of the greatest appeal worms game had was ability to face off against each other, triggering competitive spirit.
Without Wifi function, it is difficult to play against human being if you do not have any interested friends. Even if you have friend who happens to own DS, the reason for multi-player function's existance is doubtful.
Multi-player works completely same as single-player game, only much longer loading time for each rounds. Because worms is turn based game, it is more effective to play by sharing one DS with each other. It is as if gamemaker intentionally flawed the multiplayer system.
So it would have been fine if that was only problem. One of another greatest flaw this game have is poor AI. Using limited choice of weapons, they often choose to make stupidest moves (placing dynamite and not running away) and possess terrible aims even at highest difficulty.
Challenges are merely enemy having more worms or health than you, each mission hardly having any differences from each other. And computer is still easy to defeat.
Even Challenge 20, the hardest level game has to offer, becomes easy when you realize AI's obvious pattern. Game offering no challenge gets boring rapidly, and like I said, there is no multiplayer to prevent it.
Besides these giant problems, the game is also riddled with poor graphic and often occuring bugs. (It kind of gets annoying if you suddenly fall through land as if nothing is there and drowns.)
As in conclusion, Worms; Open Warfare is of poor quality, both with single player and multiplayer. I would never recommend one to buy this game unless you have friends you can play against.
