Custom Robo Arena
Review by dylanbrandon286
"A great wi-fi game with one major flaw..."
Custom Robo Arena is a very enjoyable and fun to play game. It has all the makings of a great game except for one which I will talk about later. Great multiplayer and single player with a huge array of customization options at your disposal. The game does take a while to get used to especially if you played the game on the gamecube, but I think it is better then Custom Robo on the GCN.
Graphics: 9/10 - The graphics in this game are great for a DS game. The world view in the single player game is a little choppy at times but you get used to it. The robo models in this game are absolutely stunning and you will find yourself staring at them in your garage. The robo parts make every robo look so different and that adds to the variety in the game. The robo fights are very fluid and are fun to watch and play in. You will see your graceful robo or your very fat robo duking it out in stunning virtual environments.
Gameplay: 10/10 - This is where the game really shines. Custom Robo Arena is a blast to play and you will find yourself coming back for more even after you beat the game. The wi-fi is a complete blast with someone always ready to fight your newly made robo. The battles are very intense and can last seconds or sometimes an hour if you use no time limits. Also, it is just lots of fun to customize your robo and fool around with different parts until you get a combo you like. One gripe, the world view parts in the single player get boring after a while, but that is not bad enough to deduct a point from this excellent game.
Sound: 9/10 - There is lots of variety in the weapon sounds and music is not half bad for a game like this. Sure there is no VO and the customization screen music can get repetitive but the sound is on par with the rest of the game. Well, except one part...
Story: 4/10 - The story in this game is not very good. You are an aspiring robo pilot who wants to make it to the robo cup or maybe even the police force. You got two teammates and lots of enemies that try and stop you on your way to victory. That is about it. No enthralling story here folks, just boring, repetitive dialog and easy to predict plot twists.
Replay Value: 10/10 - If the wi-fi was not there I would have given this section and this game a lower score, but the wi-fi really makes the game here. There is always someone to play with and it is so diverse due to the number of parts and stages. You will never find the same game twice and that is what keeps me coming.
Overall: 9/10 - Overall, this game is very good and deserves to be on any DS owner's shelf. With all the makings of a good game (except the story), Custom Robo Arena is an instant classic for the Nintendo DS.
