Etrian Odyssey
Review by Loitzer
"One of the best RPG's for the DS."
When I first saw this game it really didn't interest me, until my brother got the game and started playing it. He didn't like the game so much so he let me try it, and boy, I was surprised. How could he not like a game like this!
Story 4/10: Surely an RPG like this has a great story! Well, it doesn't. It's a fairly generic story with you defeating a great evil but don't let that stop you from buying this game... There's still a lot more to talk about.
Graphics 9/10: Ahh, the graphics. If you like cartoony anime figures, you're in luck. If you don't... well too bad for you. Personally I love the artwork the characters look great! That artwork gives the characters a sense of personality along with the name you give them. The 3d enviroment has a lot of detail, the attack animations are good, the spells look great and the bosses look scary. Moving on...
Gameplay 10/10: THIS is why I traded my brother my copy of Custom Robo Arena for this game! Don't get me wrong, Custom Robo Arena is a great game but I'd just rather play an Old School RPG than shoot minuature enemy robots with other minuature robots. This game has a lot of customization, you can pick a class, set skills, name your character, and pick a look for your character. The battle sequences are easy to follow, just pick an action and move on to your next character. The game requires you to move around in a labyrinth which is like a maze but don't worry, you can make your own map! What other games require YOU to make a MAP? You'll need to use this feature a lot because, a good map will guide you to the next level which will eventually lead you to the boss. beat it, and move on to the next chapt-err... stratum. It sounds easy enough right? It's easy to understand but that doesn't mean the game is easy. The bosses have a whole crapload of health, attack and defence. You HAVE to be at a decent level to beat the boss so don't be in a rush to reach the boss, use some time to level up and learn more skills the game isn't going to time you or grade you on how fast you beat the game or anything.
Conclusion: I give this game a 9 out of 10. It's long, hard, innovative and fun. If you like old school RPG's or want to try one out, I totally recommend this game. If you're like my brother who isn't really into RPG's don't get this game. Thank you for reading my first review on gamefaqs and I'm sorry if you couldn't understand a few parts of this review but, well at least I tried my best. So long, and HAPPY GAMING!
