Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2008

"A solid Yugioh game for once"
Hello everyone, this will be my first game review. My reason for doing this review is simply because I have played almost every Yugioh game available to date, and I feel like this one really stands out from the crowd of previous Yugioh games. So with that said, let's get on with the review!
Yugioh WC 2008 is the newest DS Yugioh game on the Market. Whether you are an experienced duelists or looking for a way to get into Yugioh as a newbie, this game has great features. The game has a fairly decent tutorial section for newbies, while also having computer opponents who are smarter than in previous versions. The game also features more cards than have been seen in previous Yugioh games, which is a refreshing change. Beginners can read through the tutorial, but may find the computer AI's to be quite challenging, even early on in the game (although there are a couple poorly made beginner opponents for newbies to wet their feet with). Additionally, you can also use the DS Wireless capabilities to have duels with other people through wireless internet connection.
Gameplay:
The game plays like all the other previous Yugioh games. For the most part, it is all the same controls as in all the other previous Yugioh games. The speed of the duel is not so slow as in some other versions, but isn't so fast that you can't keep up with what the computer is doing on its turn. Overall, I don't have many complaints for the gameplay.
9.5/10
Story:
This Yugioh game is two-part. First, you have the Duel World where you must fight the spirits of monsters and complete certain tasks to be able to enter the next map. You can also do special mini-games to win cards, outfits, and duel disks. You need to beat the spirit monsters 5 times to unlock characters in the other mode. The other mode is Championship Mode. This is the old-school mode of just picking a computer opponent and fighting it. Beating these opponents enough times can result in unlocking new packs to purchase with the Duel Points in the game. The Duel World story-line is a little difficult to follow at times, but overall it's at least something original, instead of playing through the game as a character from the show.
7/10
Graphics/Sound:
Well, you get to be annoyed with the same old music playing again and again and again. The music isn't so horrible that you want to crush your head against a wall, but it isn't so great as to not be frustrated by the constancy of it. The sound is decent. Different attacks from different monsters make different sounds, and little sound cues happen when you set or activate cards. Overall, the sound is not great, but not horrible. For graphics, the top screen has 3D versions of the monsters which look okay (maybe some monsters could use a little touching-up in the next version). Maybe not the greatest 3D graphics, but it's something to look at while you play.
7/10
Replayability:
Ah, now this is where the game is able to shine. More cards and more interesting opponents means a great game to be able to play over and over until you've collected all the cards and unlocked all the opponents. The game may get a little repetitive if you are not a hardcore Yugioh fan, but if you like the card game, this will give you more than enough different decks to duel against to keep you occupied for a long time.
9.5/10
Overall: 8.5/10
Final Recommendation:
For hardcore Yugioh fans, this is definitely a must buy. For beginners and people who are interested in purchasing their first Yugioh game, I suggest renting it and checking out the tutorial to see if it is your cup of tea, and then buying it after that if you decide that it's fun.
