Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Review by Runcola_Uzumaki
"A Great Sequel."
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings is the sequel to the PlayStation 2 Final Fantasy XII (As you've probably guessed already). The game takes some place after the original Final Fantasy XII. Vaan is now a full fledged sky pirate, looking for treasure. Along with Fran, Balthier, and Penelo, Vaan finds the Clache of Glabados, a crystal said to hold connections to the Eternal. Soon after, a strange airship lands in Ivalice, and Vaan, followed by his crew, boards it.
The ship takes them to the sky continent called Lemures, a continent populated by strange humans with wings called the Lemures. After landing, they find a wounded Aegyl named Llyud, who informs them that sky pirates are attacking Lemures! The story is not top notched, but the it's have bad, either. The cast is likable, the plot has some good plot twists here and there.
Revenant Wings is a Real Time Strategy game, meaning you take control of a small army and give them orders, which is cooler than it sounds. To make your army, you summon beasts called Espers (Called Yarhi by the Aegyl) to help you out. You can form more pacts with Espers through Auracites gained in battle, making pacts with stronger Espers each time. There's different types of Espers, too. Such as water typed Espers, Fire types, Ground types, and so on, each one having an advantage over one and other. The only thing I don't get is: How is Ground weak against Fire? I mean, rocks can be melted at extremely hot temperatures, but not with the type of fire in this game. I just don't get it. Anyway, there's also Flying types, Ranged types, and Melee types. There's a good variety between Espers.
Espers are not the only ones fighting, though. There's also Party Leaders. They are stronger than Espers, and you can equip them new weapons, kinda like in RPGS. There's also types of Party Leaders, Flying, Ranged, and Melee. If all Party Leaders die, it's game over, pal.
The game's graphics are beautiful. The backgrounds look great, they feel like slightly downgraded GameCube graphics. Can't say the same about the sprites though. They are horrible. The characters look all blocky, and just plain... bad. It's bearable, though.
You can't possibly go wrong with this game. Even if you're not an RTS fan, or didn't like the original Final Fantasy XII, you'll still like this game. Must buy for DS owners.
