Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

Review by JF7X

"The world is in ruins but it has never been so much fun before."

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is the second Advance Wars game for the DS and it does not disappoint. The basic idea of the game is the same as all the Advance War from the past except it has a few new gimmicks and a whole new storyline. Anyways the story line has nothing to do with the past Advance War games because it starts out where meteors have struck earth and about 90% of the population is dead. Those that are still alive will have a power struggle to see who will rule the new earth (that is now in ruins). You play as various commanders from a country known as Rubinelle and they must fight various warlords and etc. However in the game the story has many mini arcs and changes a lot.

Game Play 10/10: The game play is still pretty much the same as the past Advance Wars except they added a few new units (like the anti tank and etc). In the game you can not win just by using CO powers any more since they don't really devastate the enemies any more which means you would have to come up with more strategies now. You could also put your CO in a vehicle which then allows you to have a better vehicle and to boost any other units defense and offensive if they are with in range of the CO's influence. Your units also can level up now however the bonus that they get is not really that big. Each mission also contains an option to view for hints on how to beat a level but they are not really that helpful and when you actually do go to the option they usually have a little skit of comedy for you.

Music 7/10: The music is a mix of rock and some what of techno and classical music. It is kind of hard to explain what the general type of music the game has.

Extras/ replay value 8/10: Once you beat the game it self there is not really that much to do unless if you want to collect the medals, however most people probably just play online against other people. The COs are a lot easier to unlock in this game then in Dual Strike.

This game (I would say) is some what better then Dual Strike however many people would disagree with me and say that the past versions were better but of course the final decision on whether to buy the game is up to you.
