Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Review by riddlewraith

"looks out its a bird its a plane..its ROCKET SLIME!"

You are one of the trademark little blue slimes from the Dragon Quest series and all of the slimes in your village have been kidnapped by the "Plob" (some kind of platypus creatures that have formed a gang). For what reasons they've done this who knows? But it's your job as the remaining slime to find and rescue all of your friends.

And so the adventure begins... With simplistic controls, easy concepts and cute graphics. This game is sure to jitter your sweet tooth. However, aside form all this simplicity lays the build of a SOLID tank to tank battling system. Almost a mini game of sorts, but absolutely deep and brimming with unbridled potential for tank customization.

It's like having two games in one almost... On the one side you have this, Zelda esque, incredibly basic ARPG on the other a head to head real time strategy tank battle.

GAME PLAY

Although the ground levels a simple, they feel fun and fluid. There are actually a few different types of puzzles to try your hand at and it's a refreshing experience

Story
Not much to say about the story. You start off as a slime named Rocket (hence: Rocket Slime). Anyway, something happens, yada yada yada, and you end up having to rescue your neighbors. Not great but the gameplay definitely makes up for it. Definitely.

Graphics/Sound
Beautiful. Just... Beautiful. For the DS, these graphics are amazingly bright, clean, and brilliant. The sound is decent but nothing special to point out about that. But the graphics are just... Wow. It isn't the "Final Fantasy X summoning" type of wow but honestly, they are just VERY nice. Although they are cartoony, this game really pulls it off. Pure, beautiful, and charming.

Playtime/Replayability
Replayability? Mmm, there isn't too much in this game, really. There really isn't anything to "replay". The playtime definitely makes up for this though. Going through the game, getting items for your collection, beefing up your tank to go against your friends-- That takes up a lot of time.

This is a definite must-buy for the DS. Charming and beautiful, you can't go wrong with your purchase. To add to that, if you have a friend, a relative, ANYBODY with their own cartridge and DS, you can get some serious fun in with Tank battles. This game is nice, it's quirky, and it's a good game to give a try
