Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
Review by unitearica
"Great Game though NO big expectations"
The game in itself is very fun to play. While there is no ONLINE multiplay, it does allow you to connect with multiple players who own the game. There are some minor flaws in game play, but nothing that really takes away so much from it. It has some of the pros and cons of the original Crystal Chronicles (released for GameCube) but is in itself a great game. Because of the story line, you can begin to piece together the pre-story of FF:CC and how this game relates.
Interestingly enough, a major part to playing this game is in its replay. Having beaten the game once allows a player to save a restart the game in a harder mode. In turn (upon restarting) more items, storyline, and areas are unlocked for play. Each time: levels, items, gil, and equipment are carried over to the next replay.
This game does have its flaws however. It is in the same 3d perspective as FF:CC so jumping at certain angles can be difficult at times. Learning to control and function different characters as well as their tribal abilities can be a frustrating process to begin to learn, though it is generally picked up quickly. After some time playing, some people generally noticed they could switch back and forth naturally, which is important as the game progresses.
It has is good points too. The music is very easy to listen to and does not get repetitive enough to turn it off. The FMV cuts are very well done. The real time play mode is very nice (just like FF:CC) though bothersome at times if a player cannot save or has to stop for something. The graphics are very easy on the eyes, and the text, symbols, and map areas are not hard to understand or see. There are some good puzzle challenges within the game, however most are not very difficult.
If you are a FF:CC fan, this game is a great addition to the series (though short in terms of play). It nice get a little of the background history of FF:CC while looking forward to seeing what's next. The newer adaptive aspect of multiplayer is much easy than the first game, though still lacks a bit in regards to the necessity for teamwork. All in all, good game and recommended for game play, story lines, and fans of the FF:CC series.
