Guitar Hero: On Tour
Review by iron_killer
"Guitar Hero on DS. Fun, just the right amount of difficulty, and you can play on the go."
Overview:
I've played the Guitar Hero series on console systems, and I got hooked. When I saw there was going to be a DS Guitar Hero game, I was skeptical. 4 fret buttons, and you just slide the guitar pick stylus over strings on the touch screen to play notes. Easy, right? Wrong. While it may only have 4 frets, the game makes up for that in gameplay.
Gameplay: 9/10
Probably the most innovative gameplay on a DS so far. Just plug the fret buttons into the Gameboy part of the DS, take the pick stylus out of the Guitar Grip, and start playing. Some flaws are that the frets are close together, so people with big fingers may have problems. Also, some people say that the strap on the Grip restricts hand movement. I found out that if you loosen the strap up a little, you can move your hand around.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics for the most part are beautiful. the notes slide along the fret board cleanly and smoothly. The guitar over on the touch screen looks like a picture or screenshot rather than a game. But the band members look a little like pixels, so that brings my score down a little.
Sound: 10/10
This game's sound is as good as, if not better than, its console counterpart. The songs come cleanly, without distortion, through the DS's speakers as if they were TV speakers. If you can't hear the sound that good, you can use headphones or earbuds if yu want.
Song List: 9/10
There aren't as many songs as normal, but all of them are addicting and fun to play. Activision outdid themselves by mixing songs like "All Star" with songs like "I Know A Little." There could be a few more songs, but I'm not complaining.
Replay Value: 10/10
It's Guitar Hero. That means that, unlike other games, it doesn't tire out quickly. You could play this game for days and days and not get tired. Although it has half of the songs of the console games, it has a much replay value as them.
Overall Score: 9/10
This is the best that any video gaming company could do on a music game like Guitar Hero on a portable system.
This is my first review, but for a very good game. Well worth it if you can't afford the console game's and guitar's fees.
