Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker x Ninja
Review by RedNavySailor
"Very Very Good for a DS game!!! Bravo Capcom!!"
I must say, for a DS game, Megaman StarForce 2 is a very good game. Its like StarForce 1 and MMBN5: Double Team DS fused. Now, imagine this game on the Wii. Those of you people who like it, would love it if it were on the Wii. Anyway, Megaman StarForce 2, like Megaman StarForce 1, has a 2D/3D world. The 2D part is the environment. Like Geo's town Echo Ridge and all the places you go to. The 3D part is the battle system, which is also in StarForce 1. There is even a side quest that reflects on Megaman Battle Network 6 where Lan writes a diary about the future and that stuff. But I'm not gonna spoil it. Also it comes in 2 versions. They each have Zerker in them, and then there's Saurian (Zerker x Saurian) and Ninja (Zerker x Ninja). Unlike StarForce 1, which had 3 versions, but it wasn't too shabby. Still pretty good, but StarForce 2 is better in everyway! Anyway, on to the specific reviews!
Gameplay: 9/10
Meh, just like the MMBN series, walking around, talking to people, observing objects, finding items. When you switch worlds... walking around, doing puzzles to get to the boss... Its all the same, until you get to the Battles. My eyes loved seeing the 3D graphics on the battle system. Its 1st person, so you can only move on 3 squares of the 15 squared battle field. But hey, the battle cards are designed to hit virus' on the stage, so the gameplay really shows its stuff when it comes to battles! Plus new styles! This time with styles Zerker (Electric), Saurian (FIre), and NInja (Grass). Unfortunatly, like all the other Megaman games, you have to go on with the story to get your style. Well, its worth the wait because when you get you style, you can fuse it with another style. You can fuse all 3 styles too, but I'm not gonna say anything about it. Plus out of battle, you don't have to press B and hold B to run... like in StarFOrce 1 and unlike the MMBN series.
Graphics: 8/10
Very good graphics for a DS game. Sure, they have some broken pictures here and there on graphics, but its still very good. Its graphics got slightly enhanced since StarForce 1. Plus, the styles on this game will blow you away. Especially the special style you get, but that's a secret. Then there's the environment world outside of battle. Sprites everywhere!!! Small figures walking around. Meh, its okay. There's also a top screen picture. YOu can see what it looks like in the sky, and it changed sometimes. And when you put your visualizer or whatever its called on, you can see the EM wakes in the sky on the top screen, which is pretty cool. And you can also see Omega-Xis following you with your glasses on (that gets kinda annoying). But at least the animation on characters moving around has been improved. Like some items you get like the sky board and stuff. When your moving, especially in a cut scene, it looks like effort was put into it. Oh well, what else can I say? Good Graphics! Short and Sweet.
Storyline: 10/10
Very much longer than StarForce 1! Even longer than some MMBN games! The main story was long. Everything makes sence, unlike StarForce 1. Then there's the side quests. Jobs, help requests, all that crap gets you a lot of items. The side quest reflecting on MMBN6 is okay, and the story after the story is quite challenging. Then the different form of the final boss, and the secret final boss only makes it better! Its long, thats all I can say. You'll be playing this game for quite awhile, and yes that's a good thing. Except the fact that virus' come around every 6 seconds when your moving in the EM world. That gets really annoying. But when you have a certain weapon equipted, you can control whether you get battle cards or Zenny's when you beat a virus. Its kinda handy when you want to use the card trader or buy things from a store. But hey, thats the story. Follow the main story, do the extra story, collect all cards, then defeat the final boss in a different form plus a secret boss. Thats all it takes to make a good storyline.
Link Play: 9/10
Ugh... part of this review I dont wanna say but I will anyway... at the end of it. The new feature in this known as the sky high colosseum is actually very useful. When your playing with other people (no its not a Wi-Fi game), and you finish it, Legendary Master Shin gives you an item! Yay! But, he gives me stupid sub cards and gives my brother rare battle cards, so I dunno whats the problem. But if you play it for awhile, Legendary Master Shin will also enhance the power of your battle cards until you turn the game off, so that helped me on a lot of parts in the game. Well, the brother band system is still here. Only the main story brothers are seperate from your Linked brothers. So you can hold 10 brothers total. Which is very good. Plus there's wireless play... battling, trading, just like Pokemon! But then, there's Link Power... Link Power gets you items in the game. Rare ones too, and you can get them by making brothers over Wi-Fi, or Linking with a friend you know. Link Power can also let you equipt abilities that affect your megabuster or your health and what you do in battle, which is quite handy, like the NaviCust in MMBN's3-6. Then.. there's Wi-FI battles........ PEOPLE CHEAT!!! Thats all I can say. There's this new feature added to the game where you can battle anyone in the world over Wi-FI. Guess what? Cheaters. They hack, enhance their health, attack power, all that crap. What about other people? Some cheaters could be playing little kids or ameteurs! Its not fair for them! Think about the kids! Well, luckily I beat a couple of them. So that tells me that cheaters have no skill. But don't worry, when hacking goes bad, they won't be able to cheat. That is probably the only part of the game you won't like, other than the lag during Wi-Fi battles. The lag also sometimes makes glitches in the graphics. But that was just the down side of Wi-Fi battles. The upside is that after your done battling, and you win some battles, Legendary Master Shin (thats a mouthful) will enhance the power of your battle cards! Yay! Just like the Sky High Colosseum!
Music/Sound: 9/10
Now its time for *clears throat* *singing* the music of this game! Yes, I am in a cheery mood, for this game has really catchy music tunes and sound effects that are a little static like but still turn out well. The music... BATTLE THEME for when in battle. It sounds like your on a computer having trouble getting rid of a virus sent by an E-mail.... just the way I like it! The music has very much improved since StarForce 1. I can actually hear the instruments playing. But I don't know about all you other people. I can hear noises within noises. They made fancy paris music, mexican music, all music that I like to hear. They made the music suit the environment. Also, the boss battle music sounds like a rock band playing in thier garage (in a good way) its just remarkable. But the only minor flaws in music and audio for this game, is that they used the same house music in Megaman StarForce 1. It annoys me and I don't like it. Everytime I'm in Geo's house, my head just wants to blow up! And, then for sound effects, the flaw was the staticness that I heard. But its no big deal.
So overall, I reccomend buying this game. Its worth the money. And yes, you will be playing this game for awhile... IF you don't hack, cheat, or look on walkthroughs and find out what to do (I still do that and I still was playing the game for awhile). Plus I highly reccomend it for people that are new to Megaman, but have you rather start with StarForce 1 because StarForce 2 is a direct sequel to StarForce 1. But still. Get the game, and Enjoy!
