Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution
Review by Dragena01
"Reminds me of Civilization I and II, but greatly enhanced."
What can I say, ever since the PC days, I have loved Civilization. Civilization for DOS and Civilization II for windows were my most enjoyable moments in gaming. The 3rd in the series I didn't like too much due to bugs and just very dumb situations (Like an Axeman taking on a bunch of tanks and living to tell the tale) And since I heard Civilization Revolution was coming for the DS, I picked it up.
Graphics (8/10)
What can I say, the graphics are almost perfect for the DS. The land, the sea, and the character animations are almost flawless. Especially the character animations. And what I mean by the character animations are the battles that your units take in. Like a previous reviewer has wrote before, they kind of remind you of Advance Wars, but in a more... simplified form. My only complaint on the graphics is that I wish they made your soldiers that fight in the battle screen a little more detailed. The graphics engine within the DS can be pushed further than this.
Music (3/10) Sound (9/10)
There's really not much music in this game, the only music that can be heard is from the title screen, the in-battle screen, and these little 3 second music clips that would be mistaken for sound effects. Not too much on that. But the sound effects really fit the atmosphere. You can hear the birds chirping, the water flowing as you sale in your boat... Almost perfect.
Game play (9/10)
Comparing this game with Civilization I and II, Civilization Revolution has been greatly enhanced, but remains with the same formula:
Conquer every tribe out there within the world, Be the first tribe to launch a rocket into space, or make nice-nice with the other tribes. You can choose one of these objectives to win the game, so your choices are quite great. You also have to worry about historical achievements and technology advancements (Like writing, Bronze Tempering, etc.).
Overall (8/10)
I love the game. I just simply love it. It takes me back to the good old days, and you would not be disappointed. But if you are still unsure, then by all means rent it. If you don't, then you're missing a VERY good game here. If you've played the past versions of Civilization (And by that, I mean Civilization I or II), then this is a must-buy. I only have 2 complaints about this game: More graphic detail on the characters, and more background music. Other than that, it's great.
