Danny Phantom Urban Jungle
Review by thegamemaster8
"Could be better..."
If you're a big fan of the series in particular you've probably already gotten this one. Me personally, I enjoyed the Cartoon, but the games usually are only good for beating a few hours of boredom. Most of the Nick Games I've gotten before rarely have anything the screams out at you although I have buddies who say Tak or Avatar are good titles. This one didn't really have too many perks, but it's good side-scroller that has a few okay 3-D sections.
Graphics / 7: It's the DS so the semi-blocky graphics are okay to me whereas the 3-D Sections were concerned. 2-D Sprites were okay as well.
Gameplay / 5: Like I said, there's no real perks, but it's okay if you gotta a couple of hours to kill. It has a nice Arcade feel to it, but I wouldn't expect it to rake in Quarters if were released way back when. The Boss section was a nice twist to the whole thing. The fact that you could change Danny's Ghost Energy Color to absorb like colored attacks to replenish Energy was a nice touch though to make the game a bit easier when battling enemies who fire tons of blasts at once. Some of the 3-D Sections are a bit hard if you don't get your timing right. Trying to get the best attack upgrades can be a pain as the Item Icons can be there one second, and gone the next before you can grab them.
Controls / 7: They're a bit confusing at first with some of them being quite obvious, but once you've played it for a while, they become easier to handle. The Touch Screen isn't used too much other than using items that you collect to replenish health or energy or switching between special attacks.
Plot / 4: The Plot is basically based off a 1/2 Hour special episode of the TV Series, so it's not really an original Game Plot, though a few things have been added to keep things jumping here and there, but not much. It basically focuses on the Ghost, Undergrowth (who was voiced by Mark Hamill in the TV Series, not in the game) whose vegetation powers are turning Amity Park into the Jungle Wasteland. Danny must learn new Ice & Fire Powers to stand a chance against the new enemy.
Music / 4: Music can be a little tedious at times and most tracks are used more often than they should. I've found myself dumbing down the volume here & there to avoid listening to the tracks.
All in all 6 outta 10. Like I said, a time killer nothing else.
