Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Review by Ali_X_Rexus
"You're like "woah so cool my DS can pull this off" and then you see my score"
There's a soldier in front of you giving you pointers; you realize it's in-game and that your DS is capable of pulling off some cool first-person shooter graphics. You pick up the M16, zoom in, and unload your bullets into static targets. OMG it's so amazing and fun, and you aim with the stylus, move with the d-pad, and fire with the L-button--a perfect interface for such a game.
The problem is, it's doing something special on the DS, but not for gaming. If you really want to enjoy a first-person shooter, get yourself a PC or other such. The game kicks off with bullets, grenades, and pick-ups being icons on the bottom screen. You reload by touching your machine gun, and this helps in unloading more bullets in to the endless generic troops.
The graphics are something for the DS, and there is a good set of explosions--they're really cheesy and outdated mind you, but you get what the power gives you. Boom, it goes, but make sure you have headphones plugged in to get something out of the experience.
Scattered in between all the killing are some puzzles that utilize the stylus, like finding correct pathways that lead to cracking a password. The puzzles are intriguing but they're nothing special.
Call of Duty for the PC was something because of this: you really felt as if you were at war. You felt that you're being called for duty. On the DS, your call for duty is nothing but a generic first-person shooter that has amazing controls but little substance besides pummeling an enemy with 50 bullets before he gets downed.
I'm not exactly sure as to how the adventure lasts since I didn't get around to finishing the game, since every mission felt like the last, and eventually ,there was no more incentive to carry on playing the same thing waiting for something drastic to come--and a bazooka is nothing really that drastic, just a change of arsenal.
For those looking for a good+ DS first-person shooter, Metroid Prime is better than this, but if you're looking for warfare, keep looking, or try something more strategic, along the lines of Advance Wars--now that is some fun war.
