Feel the Magic: XY/XX
Review by jekirby
"An inovative game where you can actually "Rub it!""
Before I begin the review, I must touch on a major topic that has sprouted much curiosity over this title. Despite what others say, Feel the Magic is not a perverted game. The game is rated T, yes, that means ages 13 and up. There are some sexual refrences, but they are hardly noticeable, and you don't get a glimpse of anything that wouldn't be found in a PG movie. In my opinion, ESRB is a little harsh on their rating system, compaired to what gets by with Japanese ratings of the same degree. I wouldn't look at anyone playing this game and think of them as a pervert or anything like that. If you think this game is bad, you should start the Story from Scene 0 and see how perverted it really isn't.
Wow! This game is a very innovative game. Not only is it the first Nintendo DS title to use the full arsenal of capabilities available with the new touching features of the Nintendo DS, but it is also a very fun and comical game. From rubbing, to feeling, to poking, to scrubbing, to pushing, to blowing, and even to yelling, this game is a must play, and for many a must buy.
Gameplay: 10/10
This game reminded me that mini games can be fun, not a hastle, and it showed me that as Nintendo advertises "Touching is good." Feel the Magic showed me the abilities of this amazing handheld, being able to touch the game has released a whole world of features that Nintendo DS games can now use at their disposal. The games are very clever and interesting, and you'll play each of them more than once.
Story: 8/10
I really enjoyed the story of Feel the Magic, but I still think more could have been done with it, but I still love the silly Japanese style crazy story that you see in many games. The story is spiced up by many silly and unlikely things, instead of using a rather boring "boy falls in love with girl" setting. I found the game very unpredictable, with funny suprises found constantly through the story.
Graphics: 9/10
I love these graphics, the silhouettes, it leaves mystery to the characters, and lets you put in more of what you want. The characters could be Japanese, or American, you can choose. For a handheld these are very good graphics, the only thing I noticed changeable is to possibly smooth out some of the rough parts, so that the images look less like zoomed in raster images.
Sound: 8/10
The music is very cool, I haven't heard much like it, and the sounds you hear are very interesting. I really enjoyed playing around in the Sound test. Some of the sounds were a little hard to depict the meaning, what I thought was "Rabbit!" my friend said was "Rub it!" but for the most part I kept the volume pretty high.
Control: 10/10
The controls to this game is one of the things that make it so great. Being able to use your thumb to rub clean a woman or if you prefer a stylus, is truly inovative. This is the Nintendo DS title that shows you how good touching truly is.
Replayability: 4/10
I think it is a great game, but I anticipate that after a while I won't be playing it as much because the game is somewhat short, but the hard mode will take a while. This is the game's weak point, it won't keep you up every weekend for months on end as would some of the more popular console games, such as Super Smash Bros, Final Fantasy, or Halo. But I can guarantee that you'd play the minigames quite a few times before switching over to another game.
The Final Word: 7/10
If you can find a place to rent this game then it is worth it, but if you have some Christmas money and want the most innovative launch title for the Nintendo DS, this is the game for you. I would reccomend that everyone plays this game, to see how the DS has opened a new door to handeld gaming. Feel the Magic left me awestruck, and begging for more. I am very excited to see the new features of the Nintendo DS applied to many other games. Feel the Magic, a great game, can't compete with the top games, but it deserves an honorable mention, and is one of the best launch titles for any console ever. It shows the abilities of the new handheld console better than any other Launch game has shown the abilities for it's console. Feel the Magic is a must play.
