"Good for a Handheld!"

Graphics:
The graphics in this game are amazing. This is one of the first games to take advantage of the DS's graphics capability. The DS, however, is capable of more, but it is still in its early stages of life. The graphics, compared to an N64 or a PS1 game are better.

Sound:
The sound has much to be desired. The engine noises were good, but every type of car on the road had the same horn sound. The music could have been better. I did, however, like the crashing sound.

Gameplay:
This is where the game needs to hit it. A lot of people say that the controls in this game are too sensitive. This is not the case. If you have played this game on the Gamecube, you will understand what I mean. The biggest thing that is missing here is the analog control. Without it, you are forced to deal with the game using the D-Pad. This of course, does not work. Everything else in the game is pretty good. It would have been nice to have a career mode, unlockable shops, and the ability to free roam in this game, however. You have a quick race mode, and a "Go Underground" mode. Go Underground is still just picking levels to play, however. You can upgrade your car in terms of performance and visuals, but visual plays no role in the actual game. Just so you can like the way your car looks.

This or the PSP Version:
If you want to get a NFS game, but you can't decide between the this game or Need For Speed: Rivals, get the PSP game. The games aren't too much different, but the PSP has better graphics and analog control.

Replay Value:
This game definitely has replay value. Once you have your car totally tricked out, you will want to replay all of the races over and over again. It gets addicting. There are a few minigames to try your hand at, too.

Overview:
This game is a good game: ON A HANDHELD STANDARD. It has great graphics, good gameplay, and adequate sound. If only it had analog control. Obviously this can't replace a PS2 or a GCN game, but for a handheld, it's great.

Rent or Buy:
Well, since it's pretty hard to rent handheld games, buy it. It's only $35. This is one of the best games for the DS so far.
