Bomberman
Review by Shodges964
"A quite boring single player, but a blast as multiplayer"
Instead of choosing a brand new name for Bomberman, they made it really simple and named it....well just "Bomberman", and it shows in this game, it's not necessarily a bad thing it's just the truth.
Sound: 10
Whenever Bomberman picks up a power-up, he will shout out things like "Fire up!" "Speed up!" "Bomb up!" in a very cute adorable voice. It would be nice if you heard a scream of death from Bomberman as he dies, but then again it would take out all the cuteness. The music is very cheerful and fits into the mood and style of the game pretty well.
Graphics: 7
It's not much of a leap from the GBA versions of Bomberman. It isn't really ugly, but then again it isn't pretty or jaw-dropping either. The game runs very smoothly with the 2d sprites.
Story: 5
This is from the instruction booklet of the game
"The single-player mode lets you shed light on the mystery of the Bomb Crystal's peculiar mutations by adventuring through 10 areas"
The world goes into ruins so you have to go through a world map that has 10 levels, in each level are 10 sub-levels with a boss at the end, once you defeat the boss the land becomes pretty and happy again.
Controls: 10
I never had any problems with the controls, they are very responsive. Bomberman goes where I want him to, and navigating through the menu is easy to do with just your thumb so you don't have to take out your stylus. You give Bomberman his power-ups in the game by tapping on them with the touchscreen, and move him up and about on the top screen with the control pad. You use both screens in multiplayer because you automatically equip your power-ups in that mode.
Gameplay: 9
Ah, the most important part of any game, this game is just so much fun to play in multiplayer. You can play with up to 8 friends and/or bots, in a number of different modes, from capturing the crown, coloring the tile, or just blowing each other up. You can set up teams in all sorts of combos like 4 VS 4 OR 2 VS 2 VS 1 VS 3. You can customize all the handicaps, all the rules, you can even turn an option that lets players haunt each other once they die by flicking bombs on the screen. You will have a BLAST in multiplayer...ha ha ha....I guess it's not that clever....
Final Score: 8 out of 10
If you have even just 2-3 friends with a DS buy this game, if you don't have any friends with a DS, I don't really recommend you buying it, perhaps rent it to see how you feel. If one of your friends already has this game, don't buy it, since only ONE person needs to have this game for the 8 man multiplayer
