Meteos

Review by Soldier_0_Cross

"From The Creator of Smash Bros. Comes the most action packed and exciting puzzle game since Tetris."

Now I normally am not a big fan of puzzle games but this one is different. Not only is it action packed and keeps you thinking on the edge of your seat. It's from the creator of Super Smash Brothers, what more could we ask. I also enjoy this game more than Tetris and that's saying allot because as we all know it's an amazing game. So let's get to the reason why this game kicks ass.

Story 7/10
It's not amazing but it's pretty decent. I'll tell you what it's all about. An evil planet named Meteo is spreading a phantasmagoric flow of energy throughout the galaxy called Meteos. This Meteos crushing planets and steals the sparkle of the universe. But one time by chance 3 Meteos of the same colour lined up together and took back off to the evil planet. A defence strategy was formed planets started using this strategy to fight back against the planet. The final battle was upon the galaxy against Meteo as the spaceship of collected planets (the metamo ark) took off to fight the evil Planet. There are more than 10 endings you can get by choosing different routes and doing different things in the Star trip mode all giving you a different ending. There is however one true ending to the game that is very hard to access. But every ending is creative and cool. The story isn't bad it's just simple and fun.

Graphics 8/10
The opening movie is done in FMV and looks awesome (better than the First Hunt Demo Opening movie) the in game graphics are good because they show vibrant colours and have very nice effects. There isn't allot to say about the graphics though.

Game play 10/10
If I could give it higher out of 10 I would. Like I said in the story synopsis the idea is to line up 3 or more coloured Meteos to launch them back at the opposing planet (or just keep them from stacking up). Lets say you have 3 fire Meteos, you line them up at the bottom of the playing field they launch up and aren't getting out of the atmosphere you create chains and combos by matches more Meteos beside or on top of it to make it launch even higher you can also make more combos by lining up Meteos so that when they land again the launch instantly, and you can launch more sets of Meteos under other stacks of Meteos to make a larger stack and push the top stack higher. Also there are 32 planets to choose from (after you've unlocked everything) each have there own preferences of block colours and a different gravity (how far the Meteos will launch in the air and how fast Meteos rain down on you). Different planets have advantages over one another like a Low gravity planet whose blocks fall fast but launch like that (imagine me snapping there) would be better against a planet who has a high gravity and blocks fall slowly. But in the end it boils down to how you play. You can save yourself in any situation if you're good. Even my mom picked it up and had fun after playing for 10 minutes. I get a similar feeling when I play Meteos as I do when I play Smash Bros. Why I can't explain but it just has the same addictiveness and style of the game. This game is so addictive I started seeing 3 people and imagined them lining up and shooting off. The game play is the strongest point of this game its awesome.

Sound/Music 10/10
Wow. Just wow the music is amazing in this game. It's awesome to just sit and listen to the soundtracks from the game. My absolute favourite would have to be the Number Five for Planet Yooj. The bulk of the games music is heavy tempo'ed techno music. The sound is very good too. From a strand of Meteos shooting off to the cheer of the civilians as you save
their planet it's all very good.

Multiplayer 10/10
The multiplayer rocks. If you have 3 other buddies with this game. You will never want to put your DS down. You'll get allot of enjoyment hearing their planet and explode. My friend makes funny weird noises whenever Meteos Stack too high and he will die. Then he just scribbles as much as possible and hopes for the best. Even if you just send the demo to a few other DS systems and don't even play the full game it's still awesome.

Replay value 10/10
There's 28 planets to unlock after the initial 4. Allot of various weapons to use and also lots and lots of music to unlock. And never ever is it boring to do so. Meteos like Smash Bros. always hits you with new situations and things you can do especially if you don't use the same planet allot. If you have friends who have DS's but no Meteos.... No problem send, them a Demo so they can play together or buy themselves or verse them all with up to 4 combatants. (Yeah I said it before but maybe you weren't listening)

Final review 10/10
I know not everything got 10/10 but the Game Play makes up for it. It's the most addictive games I've seen in years. A must have for any DS owner. If your friends don't like it (like one of mine) their not giving it a chance (he played for 5 minutes). Even if you don't like puzzle games get this. It's got so much action and makes you think on your feet. So go now to EB or Game stop or Best Buy or Toys R Us and fork over $39.99 (Canadian) and buy this DS gem.
