Meteos

Review by Deathborn 668

"The best puzzle game since Tetris"

Q Entertainment. A company that just recently released two new Puzzle-games for the world to play. Meteos for the DS just happens to be one of them.

Story:8/10
A Puzzle game with a story? 1 out of every 100 puzzle games even try to introduce a story but fail completely. Meteos though is one of those rare few that have a good story. The Galaxy was at peace. However, all of a sudden large rocks were being hurled to many planets in the Galaxy. These rocks, or Meteos, started piling up quickly on many planets and eventually several were destroyed in novas. However, one day 3 Meteos of the same color were aligned and blasted off of the planet, hurled into space. Seeing this tactic, all planets under seize launched a counterattack by quickly aligning 3 same colored Meteos and ridding their planets of them, and sending them all back to planet Meteo, where the Meteos are being thrown from. A large ship is built to aid in ridding the planets of the Meteos, and eventually destroying planet Meteo itself.

Game Play:10/10
Obviously, the best part of any game. The object of Meteos is simple. Move a Meteo anywhere in its row and align it with any other 2 Meteos in a horizontal or vertical fashion. Then rocket thrusters will propel those Meteos and any others on top of them out of the planet and back into space. However, there are many different planets in the game. Each planet has its own type of gravity. Some planets, when you make a match of 3 Meteos, will launch them into space very quickly. Other planets don't have the Meteos go into space fast, or in some cases not at all. Some planets have evil tricks on them your going to need to find out for yourself like some planets will only have Meteos lift off if their in a horizontal fashion and vertical matches don't move at all. It puts a decent challenge onto the game. Not only that, but you can only move Meteos vertically, not horizontally. It makes the game very frantic, quick, and crazy. Once you send a Meteo into space you "collect" that Meteo and are then allowed to fuse it with many other Meteos to create Soundtracks which you can listen to, Items which you can then use during a game of Meteos or even new Planets for you to play on in Quick Game mode. There is so much fun to be had playing this quick game.

Control:9/10
The control interface of Meteos is simple. The bottom screen is where the main action of the game is taking place. You use the Stylus to move the Meteos into other positions to blast them into space. On the top screen you have a view of the planet(s) you are facing and their names floating above them. Also on the Touch Screen is a radar showing you what the "Touch Screen" of the enemy planets looks like so you can tell when they are about to lose. Also there is a button which you can hold to have the Meteos rain on your planet faster. Useful only when there are few matches on the field (or none at all). All of this can also be done with just the A, B, Y, X buttons, the L and R buttons and the D-Pad. Either way the controls are easy to learn and easy to use.

Graphics:7/10
The graphics of Meteos isn't superb, but you will be too busy making matches furiously that they won't really matter. Many Meteos are very colorful, with their flashing and movements. There isn't much to really say about the graphics besides saying they are pretty well done.

Music:8/10
Each planet has its own soundtrack, and nearly every planet has excellent music. Making matches will create exploding noises and rocket noises as well to signify a blastoff, launching a ton of Meteos at once will earn you cheers from the citizens of the planet. Also because you are able to buy Music, you are able to listen to all of it any time you want and believe me-its really good music.

Replay Value:10/10
There is just an infinite amount of fun in this addictive puzzle game. To be honest, I have to say it just barely outbeats Tetris. This is just one puzzle game that you just can't keep your hands off of. There is so much to unlock and so many modes of difficulty. Also there is Multiplayer ability with just one game pak, so you can have tons of fun with your friends. In all, its a game that just can't be turned away.

Buy or Rent?
Definite buy. You will be playing this game for hours every day for a long time. There are so many things to do, and so much to unlock you will need to use many Rents to complete them all and by then you will have payed the full price of the game (if not more).
