Jump Superstars
Review by MaKd
"Goku's back, and he brought some friends with him."
Where to begin? This is a DS fighting game. But what kind of fighting game you say? Think of Marvel VS Capcom mixed with Super Smash Brothers. The finished product is great. I've always wanted Goku to plow that Big mouthed Luffy in One Piece. It's a Win-win situation. What's even better is Nintendo took part in publishing this game, so it HAS to be good...right?
--Story--
It's a good thing I know Japanese!...Ok I don't know Japanese, but by looking at the pictures, you can sort of tell whats going on. Your in the Jump universe and you fight your way to the top on 4 different islands. You move along on the world maps from mission to mission. There are Battles on the world map too, this is where you fight certain Jump characters. I have to say, that there are a lot of missions and battles. It just keeps going! Which is a good thing. If your worried about not knowing the story, you'll be fine. The game is still %100 playable.
--Graphics--
Who doesn't love fighting sprites? I love them. Ever since Street Fighter I've loved them. There are over 150 character sprites and about 30+ are playable. Including Goku, Ichigo, Kenshin...the list goes on. They all look unique and different too. Oh and backround stages...Works of ART. They are beautiful, there are so many stages too. No problems here.
--Controls--
The controls are pretty simple. B button is light punch/kick. Y button is Hard punch/kick. And X button is your super! If you hold up and X button, the character does another special move. Oh, and A button is jump. You can also block with R,L, and the down button. Totally reminds me of Super Smash brothers. To actually fight though, you need to make decks out of Komas. You win komas by beating missions and battles on the world map. Komas are made up of Support, battle, and help characters. You need atleast one of each in your deck to use it. You can also switch between characters on the bottom screen by touching it. Only problem with controls is that my thumb kind of hurts after playing for so long.
--Sound/Music--
The music is great. Unless you play the same stage over and over, the music can get irritating. But that only happens on single pack multiplayer. Most levels have a variety of music so you won't be disappointed. The SFX are great too, the casual punch and kick noises. Too bad they don't have voices though. But then they would have to gather so many people to add it in. Too much of a hassle.
--Conclusion--
I've had the game for about a week now and I must say it's a must-have for any DS owner. Multiplayer is a blast if your friends imported the game too. There is a lot of strategy in the game too because you can make your own decks. Having the right Komas for certain battles determines the winner! I have already put about 16 hours into the game and am no where near getting all the unlockables. I recommend this game to everyone. Get a credit card, ask your mom! Get this game NOW!
