Trace Memory
Review by gazimon
"An innovative and fun game...the first time round"
Another Code: Two Memories (Trace Memory in Europe), is the first true adventure game in the point-and-click style. It starts off with some thoughts from inside the main characters mind. Ashley has received a message from her father whom she thought was dead for 10 years, saying that he would like to spend her birthday with her. She wakes up and finds herself on a boat, headed for Blood Edward Island. The place where her father said he would be waiting.
Upon arrival you set out on your adventure to find your missing dad, and answers to your past.
Story: 9/10
The story in Another Code is truly wonderful, you find out little details along the way and some major ones after you uncover others. It always keeps you guessing. The only setback in this is that if you miss a detail, you might be missing out on several others so that when you finish the game, some things may still be unclear.
Music: 7/10
Not too many tunes here but are nice to listen to. The music can get a little annoying when you're stuck running around and it's the same tune, but that's what volume controls for. I highly recommend turing the volume up though during the dialogues.
Gameplay: 9/10
Ahh, finally the backbone of games. Another Code is simply put, FANTASTIC. You run around the mansion finding clues and solving puzzles, sounds pretty simple, but it isn't. Many puzzles require you to breath into the microphone (the slot in your DS with mic written above it) or close the lid partly to find a reflection. The reason that this doesn't receive a 10 is that you can get stuck, which results in minutes or hours running around furiously tapping everything in the hope that you might find a clue to help you on your way.
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics in Another Code are terrific. On the top screen is a picture of the room you are currently in, or of an object. When you move about from one object to another the picture changes. On the bottom screen is a birds eye view of your character and the room around you, this screen also acts as a magnifying glass when you click the Magnify button, to zoom up on the top screen picture, then point and click your way to then next clue.
Replayablility: 7/10
Once you've played it it's fun to do a speed run, or try to collect all the memories to get a different ending. Also if you play it the second time through on the same file you get some minor changes. However it really only lasts for about 6 hours the first time and even less the second. And once you've beaten it twice, it's really not that much fun anymore.
Overall,
Story :9/10
Music :7/10
Gameplay :9/10
Graphics :10/10
Replayablility :7/10
= 42/50
= 84/100
= 8/10
