Yu-Gi-Oh! Nightmare Troubadour
Review by War Raichu
"I would make a D-D-D-D-DUEL joke, but I won't............wait.........too late"
I've been waiting for this game since the beginning of the year. Now I have it, and while I was disappointed in some places, this is still a great game.
--Storyline--
It's a pretty basic storyline. It takes place in Battle City (yet again). Your character, whom you can name, is one of the many duelists in the tournament. The story goes all the way through the Noah saga and to the end of the Battle City Finals Arc, so you can definitely expect to see characters from both. I've yet to get that far, however.
7/10
--Graphics--
The monsters finally appear outside their cards! On the top screen, when a monster is summoned, it appears. Well known cards like Dark Magician and the Egyptian Gods have a special summoning animation. The graphics are impressive for the DS, for sure.
7/10
--Sound--
The music is good, but some of the sounds are really awkward. The combination of the music for your House and the sounds inside are very weird.
5/10
--Gameplay--
That IS what the game is about, right? The gameplay is Expert Rules, just like the real life card game and just like the popular World Wide Edition for the GBA.
The card list goes all the way up to Lost Millennium. The bad news is, it just includes cards from all the sets; it doesn't have every card of every set. So to get that Nephthys the fans wanted, they had to cut out a lot of cards from other sets, including one of my favorites, Dark Blade, and his union monsters (which is quite strange, considering there are two cards that are in the game with their art on it). But this is made up for by having the Egyptian Gods finally playable in an Expert Rules game.
Outside the duels, you pick your opponents by dragging a circle across a map. As the circle changes colors, from blue to pink, you know if you're close to a duelist. The duelist list is quite large, including almost all of the main characters from the Battle City and Noah sagas.
All in all, the gameplay is only hurt by the fact that they tried to cram the best cards in, while leaving all the underrated cards out.
8/10
Overall:
If you're a Yu-Gi-Oh! fan and you have a DS, go buy this game now.
