Zoo Tycoon DS
Review by EagleRebirth
"Throw some animals, a few caretakers, and a whole bunch of glitches together, and you get this game."
To start out, I'd like to say that I loved the PC Zoo Tycoon and thought that it was awesome. When I heard it was coming out for the DS, I was really excited and bought it right away. That's where I made a big mistake.
Gameplay- 4/10 (due to glitches)
For those who don't know what this game is about, you try to complete scenarios by building one zoo at a time and trying to achieve (and maintain) certain goals for a specified amount of time. If you succeed, you beat the scenario and start a new one. There are many to play, with several different difficulties. You can also choose to just play the freeform mode where you have no goals, and just are building for the fun of it.
The only bad thing is that you can only save one zoo at a time, so you might want to complete all the scenarios before making your own zoo, lest you have to delete it later on.
This game would be awesome were it not for the abundant glitches, one of which prevents you from ever completing the game and getting the secret animals (if there are any, for nobody knows due to the glitch). Another glitch freezes the game and makes you restart from the last save you made, so you must save often or fear losing data.
Graphics- 7/10
I don't really judge games by graphics as most great games don't need amazing graphics to be awesome. Overall, I'd say they are a little worse than the PC version, but not that bad really.
Sound- 4/10
The only sounds this game has is a tune when you are on the main menu and the occasional animal noise/guest chatter. Most of the time it will be completely silent. Weird.
Replayability- 5/10
While there are many scenarios, I'd doubt that anybody would want to play them more than once. An seeing how there is only one save file, you'd have to delete your current zoo to start a new one. Doesn't seem like much replayability to me.
Buy or rent?
Rent it if you can find it. Were it not for the glitches, I'd wholeheartedly support the buying of this game, but please don't waste your money on a game that can't even be completed.
