Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors 2
Review by hatakekakashi07
"Having a hard decision whether to buy this game or not? Stop looking, you've found the answer."
The saiyans are back again for another clash, but on the Nintendo DS. This time with tag-team and a few other nifty additions to further improve the new generation of "good" DBZ games. DBZ: Supersonic Warriors 2 is (obviously) the sequel to the fast-paced fighter DBZ: Supersonic Warriors.
Now one may think "wow two screens, there must be vast changes over the 1st one!"
That, my friend is where you go wrong. SW2 does what most fighter sequels do; they go with the same formula that worked and added things to try and make the sequel better. Atari does a good job with following this procedure but at times I feel that the game shows me that it was a rushed job. There are quite a few spelling/grammar errors that really shouldn't be in a video game. Although it doesn't destroy the game quality it does degrade the image of this game a little bit.
Game-play: This is perhaps my most debated category of the entire game. The combat is very addicting and keeps you coming back for more, but on the other hand there is no true combat system and there is really no skill involved into this game. Once you get the whole punch, kick, block, throw moves down it gets really easy. 8/10
Sound: This time around you actually get voices of the characters during combat. Although it does get repetitive and annoying. Examples are Teen Gohan going "Moron!" or Vegeta going "Trash". The music matches the rock-like music that is used in the English dubbed version of DBZ, yet it is a bit iffy sounding. All in all, a good upgrade from the 1st game. 7/10
Story: If you were getting this game for the whole DBZ saga all over again, you may or may not get it. Atari seemed to approach the story mode in a way that would satisfy the DBZ fan's over people that just seem to know what DBZ is but don't know what it's about. If your a fan this may or may not be your thing, but if your not a fan chances are this really won't be your kind of thing since it will make no sense whatsoever. Fans 7.5/10 Non-fans 4.0/10
Lasting Appeal: To unlock everything it can take from around 5-7 hours depending on how you play it. You may think that it is short, but hey it's a fighting game. Last time I checked you wasted your time fighting CPU or friends over playing story mode the whole time. This game can last you a very long time.
Now comes the final question: To buy or not to buy?
I was very satisfied with my purchase of this game. One reason is because I bought it before reviews came out so that I could choose my own "destiny" :P.
If you are a DBZ fan this is a must buy and if your not, research more about this game...if there is anything about it at this time and decide. I personally think that the combat is worth the admission. I say buy.
