Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble!

Review by Ninjilla

"A pretty good Portable game, too bad some stuff really sucks"

Capcoms Viewtiful Joe is one of Capcoms best franchises, too bad it didnt sell much. However, the people at Capcome have made a good VJ game for out little DS. Here is the review.

Gameplay 9 / 10: The gameplay was transferred rather well, with 3 control styles to fit your play style. This game is hard to control with your finger, so stylus control is definantly recomended, especcailly for the parts in which the touch screen must be used in conjuction with powers like slow. Speaking of some of these powers, there are many puzzles littered through out the games levels. Some are simple and involve Slowing down time to make a water droplet huge. The main powers in this outing include Slow, Split (where you move the top half of the bottom screen), Scratch (to drop items on enemies), and Slide, to switch the bottom and top screens, much like Zoom in the console games. The combat reamins mostly the same, with 1 large tweak. When you avoid an enemies attack (pressing up or down, opposing the enemies strike), and press Slow, and hit the enemy, the others are not affected, and there for, you must Daze multiple oopenetes before even thinking of starting a good V-Point Combo. Ah, V-Points, currency in VJDT. This will buy the items in the game, but sadly, most arte useless, and the only ones that will actually make a difference are the Charger and the Hearts (and the Red Hot Kick if you are good at hitting from angles).

Difficulty 5 / 10: this game is easy. Like really easy. I myself beat it in 4 hours, and some have beaten it without being hit. Doesnt live up to the Pedigree of the Last two Joe games.

Graphics 8 / 10: The 3D models and 2D landscape really fit in well, and are greatly handeled on the DS. How ever, there is somw slowdown when alot is going on, but this is kinda rare. Also look closely in Level 2 for some referances to Resident Evil. A nice Cel-shaded Robo touch was added. The cutscenes are not that great, and aulthough they carry on the story with some good dialogue and action (and twists, hoo rah), sometimes they just plain suck

Control 7 / 10: The fighting Control is rock solid, how ever, there are some hiccups in the touch screen, such as the Split and Slide powers not activating/deactivating right away or at all, atleast until you poke and prod a couple of more times.

Sound 6 / 10: The music is good, and you will hear the familier Intro music as you see a silouette of the boss. The ingame sounds are great such as the infamous "Henshin a go-go baby!" to the " Hell yeah!" when you get the pink Gourd. However, the cutscenes have nearlt no voive work maybe other than some grunts or little quips of spoken dialogue.

Story 4 / 10: The story sucks, plain and simple. The last boss's true identity was just really bad of Stroy board planning on Capcoms part. ery Disgraceful:

There is my review. If you, like me, are a die hard Fan of VJ, the buy this game, how ever, if you are a casual gamer, rent it, beat it, enjoy it for the couple of hours it lasts.
