Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Review by Mr_Mitten
"After many failed attempts someone finally does portable Star Wars right... That someone is Ubi-Soft..."
I love Star Wars so much. There are many wonderful games based on the wonderful series of movies. There have been quite a few Star Wars games on the GBA but most of them well sucked. On its first appearance on the DS Star Wars is great.
Graphics: There are 2 parts to this game. 2d sidescrolling adventure levels which is what most of the game is. Then there are the flying levels, which look very nice in 3d. In both cases the Graphics look great. All the animations for the side scrolling parts are great. The lasers for the flying in outer space bits also look cool, very close to the movies. One minor thing I have to say about the graphics is in the 3d parts sometimes every thing looks really shiny and your ship has a green like shine to it. That might just be the lighting in a couple of the levels though. Another thing about the 3d is some of the ships look really, really bad. The X-wing comes to mind. It's really really blocky. Aside from the X-wing all the graphics are great.
Graphics 10/10
Sound: I love the sound in this game all the classic John Williams Star Wars music is in there. The sound effects are nothing bad either. The light sabers and laser blasts sound just like from the movies. Same with the explosions. There aren't really any voices in this game, which is a bit of a disappointment. The only voices I can seem to think of in this game are all the battle droids occasional yell of "Roger, roger!!" or sometimes when they die they go "DOOOOOOOOZZZZZZZZT!" or something like that. Sound always makes a Star Wars game for me, and in this case Ubi-Soft has done everything right.
Sound:10/10
Gameplay: This game is great fun. You mostly destroy different types of battle droids. There are a couple new ones made just for this game I think. I haven't seen them in any of the Star Wars movies. The hack and slash gameplay in this game is great fun. But that just might be cause I love mindlessly killing things in games especially when it's in 2d and it's even better when it's mindlessly killing things with a light saber or other sword like weapon. Something that adds to this type of game play is the RPG type character development. At the end of every level you get points depending on how fast you finished and how many force powers you used. You can then use those points at the end of the level to upgrade your force powers to make them stronger or more effective. You can also increase your maximum amount of force powers or health as well as your maximum damage dealt each attack. You can also play as either Obi-Wan or Anikin which is nice. Each character has different force powers and the levels are very different. You should definitely play through both characters as well as all three difficulty settings. The master setting is really hard, that's what I'm currently trying to beat but you get extra things by beating the different difficulties. The outer space bits are also really fun. You mostly fly around and shoot Droid Fighters in various environments with Rogue Squadron 1 like graphics. The multi-player is something totally different. It's most likely the best part of the game. It's 4 player. A couple of my friends have this game so we play together regularly. You can also play against fairly skilled bots. The best part of multi-player is the fact there are so many ships you can play as. I mentioned the X-wing didn't look very good but it's in there along with the Millennium Falcon, a couple different Tie Fighters, as well as the Slave 1, 3 different Jedi Star Fighters along with General Grevious' Ship and that ship Anikin pilots in the cartoon network's Clone Wars series. There are also some miscellaneous star ships from Episodes 2-3. You can use different skins on all the ships that change their color which is pretty cool. I really wish there were some 2 or 4 player side scrolling dueling. That would have been pretty sweet. But oh well. The gameplay should get a 9/10. With one point off cause I was really really disappointed there was no multi-player dueling.
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall: This is a great game, something I think every DS owner should have. It will make car/train/bus/plane rides go by in minutes. Definitely one of the most entertaining portable games I have ever played and it's probably even my favorite Star Wars game I've ever played. Overall I think this game is a perfect 10/10. Even though I think they should have had some multi-player dueling but I don't think the game should get a 9/10 simply for not having 2 player dueling. (Something I think all Star Wars games should have.) Oh well.
Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith on DS: 10/10
