Lost in Blue
Review by totalgamrchik
"One of the greatest games on DS."
Overview:
Lost in Blue is one of those games that are overlooked sometimes because of their lack of bloody guts bouncing in all directions or things that satisfy our more inaproppriate sides. True, it has no foul language, guns, or revealing of bodily functions, but that doesn't mean it can't be classified as a great game!
Gameplay: 10/10
The things in this game are very realistic. Its basically a game where you call the shots, and there's no rules but STAY ALIVE. Like said earlier, nothing in this game that would make the game worthy of a Teen rating, but instead there are activities to occupy your time such as hunting, fishing, and generally exploring the island. Many people complain that it is overly difficult to care for your nearsighted companion, Skye, but your source of food revolves around her. So be nice and don't whine :P
Storyline: 7/10
You are 18-year old Keith, who was on a cruise ship that got caught in a storm and managed to sink itself. Yes, the storyline has been used before, deducting a few points from the score. Yet the storyline is still good in ways. How? Wel, I can't tell you everything.
Graphics: 8/10
The graphics are not exactly as top-notch as, say, nintendogs, but still quite acceptable. The close-up views of fishing, creating fires and whatnot are quite good. Also, the artwork done on the close-up characters are just what you would expect--detailed and beautiful. Although the shot of an arrow creates a few yellow sparks exploding upon impact, the graphics are still very nice.
Sound: 9/10
One point was deducted from lack of sound--it can be rather unnoticable. But what you do notice is beautiful. The crunch of grass beneath you feet from the chatter of a squirrel, the sounds are like an ecosystem ripped from the real world and stuffed in a little cartridge. When you dig in the dirt, it sounds like it. When your sneakers pad against the rocky cave, it sounds like it. This is a top-notch sound system.
Overall: 9
This game is one of the greatest games on the DS. It may leave you crying in frustration to the point where you just leave it on a shelf, but you're practically guarenteed to pick it up again---either because its too fun, or you want to prove it wrong.
