"Not exactly terror in the palm of your hand..but a great game nontheless"

This game takes place in a mansion, close to the Raccoon Forest, Raccoon city's police S.T.A.R.S team Bravo investigates the mansion, they disappear so Alpha team gets sent to look for them. The two playable characters are Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. Jill takes more damage but she can easily open doors with a lockpick and has more inventory space, however Chris takes less damage, but he can't use a lockpick, and has less inventory space. Using Chris harder than using Jill. I've never played the original Resident Evil on PSX but I've played the Remake which was really fun, so I decided to pick up Deadly Silence, so here is my critique on the game.

Gameplay (9/10)

In this game there are two modes of single player: Classic, which is the original PSX version, and Rebirth, which is the all new mode. In Rebirth there are more zombies than classic, and more ammo, with puzzles that can be solved using the touch screen or the microphone. Something which I really enjoyed were the first-person knife fights. When you enter a room, sometimes one of these battles will trigger. You will automatically be changed to first-person mode, and you must swipe the touch screen with the stylus in any direction to slash in that direction, if you tap the screen you do a stabbing move. You will face zombies, dogs, crows, hunters, etc. in these battles. Classic mode is more puzzle solving than shooting. You can change the colour of the blood to either green or red, and the function of the X and the Y button at the options screen. I can't write about the multiplayer because I haven't tried it myself yet.

Controls (8/10)

For the basic controls, it will take some time to get used to the "tank" character moving system, regardless of which direction you are going the up button the D-pad will move your character forward. Pressing left or right on the D-pad will rotate your character, and pressing A will pick up items. Holding L will take out your knife and you can use the D-pad then press A or B to swipe either upwards, in the middle, or downwards, same goes with using guns. Holding R will take out your gun, then either A or B will be used to fire.

Replayability (10/10)

Two different characters, two different modes of gameplay, and unlocklable characters for multiplayer and a weapon for single player means this game will last for quite some time for most people who haven't played and beaten the hell out of the original or the REmake.

Graphics (7/10)

Graphics aren't great but they don't make the game less enjoyable really.

Rent or Buy??

It's really your choice. If you want a game that will provide you with hours of zombie pwnage and atrociously cheesy, but funny voice acting, get it. If you're a die-hard fan then it's a great addition to the collection. For those who have played and beaten the original it won't last as long.

Average Score (8.5/10)

It wouldn't fit 8.5 so I had to round it to 9.
