Jump Superstars
Review by yamijason
"Shonen Jump, on the ds. Brace yourself for a wild ride!"
Gaming isn't a hobby, it's a passion
If you've ever played Super Smash Brothers, you'll know what this game is about. But it also brings some interesting features to the table. For example, the "card" system.
Card system? You ask. Well basically the bottom screen takes on the impression of a comic book page, with panels etc. You unlock new panels through the adventure mode, which you can use in your deck. This system is very deep, and you may spend many hours fine tuning your deck,
Gameplay: 9 Out of 10.
The card system and the fighting are implemented well, with fast paced and sometimes hilarious combat, the action doesn't let up, and the adventure mode and wireless play provide an extensive range of options. The adventure mode brings less conventional goals to the table, such as "Don't use the B button. The combat is frantic, fun and enjoyable, and the adventure mode can be highly challenging at times. The language barrier can drag it down a tad, but there are plenty of guides around that make it easy, and gameplay soon becomes second nature.
Graphics and Sound: 10 out of 10
The graphics are bright and colourful, with well designed sprites and backgrounds. The sound effects are great and the music is catchy. The graphics suit a game of this type, and suit the manga characters. The art on the panels is also very clear and of excellent quality. This game won't grate on the eyes or the ears.
Lifespan: 8 out of 10.
The adventure mode will last you a while, and getting all koma and fixing up your decks will take a while. With a buddy, the lifespan is potentially extremely long. Even on your own, fighting against the computers will last you a while, there is plenty to keep you coming back. But you may get bored of the computer and the game, but it's well worth some of your cash.
Overall: 9 out of 10.
If you love your manga, and don't mind the language this is a must buy. I'd recommend this for anyone, there is something here for everyone I think. The combat is deep, the characters are entertaining and it contains many characters over many series'. From regulars like naruto, to virtually unknown on these shores, this game has it all. This game lacks online, which is a huge shame and a great opportunity missed . The language is easy to get around as long as you use a guide, and you shouldn't let something that obvious cause you to miss out on this instant classic. The best game on the Ds in my opinion. Go ahead and get it!
