Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
Review by BassForever
"Resident Evil DS, a great port of a classic and a great remake"
I am a rather "new" Resident Evil fan, I didn't start until REmake. That being said, RE:DS is one of those games that you while it does feel like another port of the same old thing, it is in fact a port and a remake in one, so rejoice!
.
Graphics- The graphics in this game are really well done, compared to the PS1 originals graphics there is a slight improvement and for a DS game it has some of the best 3-D graphics on the console at the current time.
.
When the game activates a cinematic cut scenes these look really grainy and are terrible to look at, thankfully these are skip able and are few and far between. The other graphical flaw is the blood everyone splatters, it is stupidly big and looks terrible. It was an odd choice to have pixelated blood in a game that is almost all 3-D rendered.
Graphics=7/10
.
Audio- Resident Evil 1 was know for its terrible script writing and voice acting. These two mixed together actually are very humorous and are fun to listen to. Other then the stale voice acting the monsters, guns, and music all sound right and fit the theme of the game. Talking about the music, it is very creepy and puts you pulls you into the RE world very well.
Audio=9/10
.
Gameplay- The part where Resident Evil shines, gameplay. Classic tank controls can be difficult at first but once mastered (which takes about 10 minutes) you will be moving around like a pro. Monsters are varied and fun to battle, the bosses provide a challenge but aren't so impossible you can't stand them. A few minor gameplay additions help the game alot. A quick turn which allows you to run away faster, an quick reload button, and RE4 style knife that activates when you hit the L button add to the fun of the game.
.
REbirth mode adds even more content to the game. New FPS knife scenes are simple and fun to do, and by simple I don't mean easy. At first the FPS sequences are simple but as the monsters get stronger and more numerous you will find yourself having a bit of difficulty winning these fights, but as I said before, it isn't too hard. REbirth mode is alot more action packed, between the random FPS knife scenes and the increased amount of enemies and ammo you will find yourself fighting alot more then in the original RE.
Gameplay=10/10
.
Replay- With 4 game modes (Jill classic, Jill Rebirth, Chris classic, Chris Rebirth) and a fun mini game called "Master of Knifing" you will get alot of hours out of this game. Your first play thought will take about 6-8+ hours and each follow play will take less and less. A good RE player can beat any mode in about 2-3 hours. That being said, you can easily get 25+ hours out of the game beating all the different modes. RE is one of those games that because you can beat it so quickly it is fun to replay alot, so you can get alot more time out of it.
Replay=9/10
.
Multiplayer- As of this time I have yet to play the multi player mode because it is multi card and no one I know owns the game. The basic layout works like this, you must get though one of three maps in a time limit either as a team or against your friends. As a team you must try to survive and work as a group because you all share one health bar.
.
Versus you are trying to get the highest score and beat the level first. There are 9 playable characters which you can unlock by beating all the different game modes. Each level gives you a 15 minute time period so don't expect them to go long for too long. Also you can only see yourself in multiplayer, your friends are little transparent stars.
.
Multiplayer=6/10 (This is based upon the lack of options and the difficulty of being able to play multiplayer.)
.
Final Score=41/50 or 8/10
.
A very fun game worth picking up. If you are a RE fan you should pick this up to try out the new REbirth mode and if you have never played a RE before this is a great way to start.
