1. Version History
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 2.0- Finallt finished "Types of Tamagotchis!"
Version 1.3- I added some borders to make reading easier... I hope!
Version 1.2- Yay! I now have a very nice looking ASCII title and picture.
Bravo for me.
Version 1.1- Added "my strategy" to the games. Still trying to find good
info for section nine, though.
Version 1.0- I set out and finished what I wanted to achieve.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A game revolving around the Tamagotchi. Basically, it's like the small,
pet version, only on the gameboy! There's a few reasons why you would want the
game. You could be a long time fan of Bandai, and their products. Or you could
just have the pet, and wanted to try it out on the gameboy. Or you just bought
the game because it was cheap at a garage sale, like me. But the game is so
much more than that, I discovered. I don't think the game is "the best" or
absolutely amazing, but it has entertained me!
My guide is going to show you the basics of the game. In here, you'll find
out how to play, and maybe some small tidbits along the way. If this guide is
accepted, I'll be adding a whole lot more!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. What's Great About The Game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel the game is a huge improvement from the small pet that was released
some time ago. I like that you don't have to continually save the game before
you turn it off. You just turn it off and it saves automatically.
Secondly, there aren't as many annoying beeps that made me want to drive a
hammer through my small, plastic pet. I find that the pet keeps quiet alot,
and you can always turn the volume down!
Lastly, this game isn't some major priority that will take up all of your
time. I usually play fifteen minutes a day. I can just put it down, then pick
it up again the next day!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Controls
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
__________________________________________________
/A button: Select/ Jump \
B Button: Exit/ Cancel
Control Pad: Move the selection box/ Move the pet
\__________________________________________________/
These are pretty self-explanitory. The A button is basically to confirm your
choice. It also makes your pet jump in one of the games. The B button is used
when you have to cancel your choice, or exit a screen. The control pad is for
moving the little guy around.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5. Explaination Of The Start Screen
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you turn the game on, you see a nice little animation of a tamagotchi
space ship landing. Then a box appears with little pets dancing around it. The
box contains three options, or two if it's you very first time playing. The
options are:
_________
/Continue:\ This will only appear if you have already started a game. Use this
\_________/ option to continue your game.
_________
/New Game:\ You can start a new game for the first time, or replace the game
\_________/ you've already started.
_________
/Options: \ These are the options of the game. These include:
\_________/
-Time Speed-
You can set the "Time Speed" to fast, medium, or slow.
-Memory-
If you have a game in process, and a pet of yours has died, then you can post
a picture of it here. It helps you remember what they pet looked like, it's
name and how old it was.
-Exit-
Gets you back to the screen with "New Game" and "Continue".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. How To Get Your First Pet
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Select the option "New Game" with the A button. You can have the Proffesor
explain what's happening, or you can choose an egg. You will be led to the egg
room where you will be asked to choose an egg. These are the options:
_______________ _________________________
/Egg Description\ /What Baby It Will Produce\
\_______________/ \_________________________/
Plain White Egg White Baby
White Egg With Stripes Black Baby
White Egg With Spots White Baby
White Egg With Hearts Black Baby
White Egg With Checkered Black Baby
Black Egg With Stars White Baby
Shaded Egg White Baby
Black Egg Black Baby
NOTE: You will be able to look after three babies. Therfore, you get to pick
three eggs. I recommend having one of each, then whatever one for the last.
After choosing your first egg, you get to name it! Then you are led to the
"Playroom" where the egg hatches, and you get to meet your first pet! The pet
will be sad and sick, but with your help and mine, it'll be healthy in no
time!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Explaination Of The Main Screen/ Toolbar
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The screen which is supposed to be the pet's "Playroom" is the main screen.
This is also where you get to see the main toolbar. It's not that confusing,
but it can be. The Toolbar is all you'll need to keep your pet happy, fed, and
to help it grow. These are the things you'll find on the toolbar:
___________
/On the top:\
\___________/
-Clock-
This isn't the real time, but time in the Tamagotchi World. One minute in our
time is equal to one hour in the Tamagotchi World.
-Name-
Simply, it's the name of your pet.
-Switch-
This is where you click to switch between pets, that is, if you decide to have
more than one. It's very important to watch up here. Sometimes a symbol will
show up beside a pet that you aren't currently looking at. This means
something is happening to the pet, good or bad. It's best to take a look.
______________
/On the bottom:\
\______________/
-Feeding Time!-
The symbol with the fork and knife is where you feed your pet. You have the
option of choosing foods like bread, meat, and carrots. You can also choose
from two desserts, ice cream and cake.
NOTE: Certain pets like and dislike certain foods. Always try to give your
pet something it likes, and never what it dislikes!
-Lights Out!-
The light bulb is where you can toggle the light on and off. Usually, it's
best to have the light on when your pet is awake and up and running. Turning
the light off is for when it sleeps. If you have the light of when it's awake,
be prepared for a grumpy pet!
-Game Time!-
It's time for games. There are only three types of games your pet can play.
One where you guess which direction it will face, left or right. The other
game is where you catch flying baseballs from the sky by jumping. Another where
your pet answers math questions. Strategy for both of the games will be covered
later in this guide.
-Sick?-
The icon with a needle is where the medicine can be found. Whenever your pet
is sick, which is showed by a little skull icon next to it, you need to give
it either a shot or some pills. There isn't a sure way to know which to give,
but try both until the pet looks better!
-Bath Time!-
The rubber ducky sends a big wave across the screen. This cleans up any
unfortunate messes that come across your way. You know a pet is about to make a
mest when it shows a disgruntled look on its face. When a pet is older, you
can see it going on a toilet, like a properly trained pet!
-Discipline-
This is show by a little pac man with shouting lines. If your pet is bad,
and refuses to play a game when it needs to, or doesn't eat when it has to,
you scold it. When your little guy does something good, praise it!
-Scale-
This is where all of your pets vital statistics are! You will be viewing this
alot, and contains many things like:
____________________________________________________________________________
/Age: How old your pet is. \
Weight: How much it weighs.
Life Meter: One heart on the meter gets filled for every meal the pet eats.
Fun Meter: One herat on the meter gets filled for every "guess the direction"
game that's played.
IQ Meter: One fourth gets filled everytime you play the math game.
Body Meter: One fourth gets filled everytime you play the baseball game.
DeeD Meter: One fourth gets filled everytime you scold/praise PROPERLY.
\____________________________________________________________________________/
-Professer-
Clicking on the proffesor lets you choose another egg (you can have up to
three), explain a few things about the game, pick a test, or send a pet home,
basically killing it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8. Guides To The Games
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
___________________
/Guess The Direction\
\___________________/
This game is quite simple. You guess the direction that your guy will face,
left or right, by pressing one of the directions on the control pad. You must
get three out of five right to win.
-My Strategy-
I always start with the determination of going left, right, left,
right, and left. But if I guess, and I'm wrong, I always go the opposite
direction of the direction I got wrong. I know this sounds completely
confusing, so I'll use an example. I choose left first, and I get it wrong,
because my pet faces right. I always choose the opposite of what I got wrong,
so next, I choose left! Get it? Didn't think so...
_____________
/Baseball Game\
\_____________/
This game is a little harder. You must catch flying baseballs before they hit
the ground. Getting under the baseballs just in time can be fusterating. Just
hold the direction you want to go, then tap the A button to jump towards the
destined spot. In Game A, you must catch five out of ten balls, Game B, seven
out of ten balls, Game C, nine out of ten balls.
-My Strategy-
This is very simple. When I catch one ball, I always go back to the center of
the screen. It makes changing directions and moving around easier!
_________
/Math Game\
\_________/
Your little guy runs back and forth thinking of what the answer to the easy
math equasion is. Let him run back and forth about three times, then click A.
Hopefully, it will go to the right answer. You must answer two out of three
questions right, every time!
-My Strategy-
Very simple indeed. I always let him run three or four time back and forth.
Then I press the A button when he's the closest to the right answer.
(Distance wise)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I would also like to say a few things. Thank you to James F. who helped me
continue to find a game to write a guide to.
I would also like to thank that generous garage sales man for giving me this
game at such a cheap price.
Thank you for all of those who read this, it makes all my work worthwhile.
