1) INTRODUCTION
Hello. I thought that I hadn't done an FAQ for a while and
thought it was time to do another. So here we have this guide
to the extremely rare and mostly unheard of Gameboy version of
Fatal Fury 2. If you are like me and don't have the manual for
this game and have no idea how to do any of the special moves
then this guide will help you out, along with answers to
anything else you may have.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
2) STORY
The first Fatal Fury game never saw a Gameboy release so you
may well be wondering what the hell is going on. In the first
game, a fighter called Terry Bogard fought through the King of
Fighters tournament with his brother Andy and his friend Joe.
Terry managed to beat all of the competition and reach Geese
Howard, the man responsible for the death of Jeff Bogard. Terry
managed to beat him and, seemingly, kill him as Geese fell from
the tower the two fought on.
One year on and another King of Fighters tournament has been
announced, and this time the best fighters from all over the
world step up to the challenge. Who is the one hosting the
tournament and why is he after Terry?
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------------------------------
4) MODES
After pressing start at the title screen the main menu will
appear with several options, in this order:
STORY MODE
VS MODE
OPTION MODE
Here is a brief description of each one:
STORY MODE
The single player mode lets you choose a character who then
has to fight his/her way through the tournament. Beating
the game will get you your fighter's ending.
VS MODE
This mode lets you link up to fight a human opponent. Of
course, both players need a Gameboy and a copy of the game,
as well as one link up cable.
OPTION MODE
Here you can set the level of difficulty for the story mode
(either easy, normal or hard) and also set how long a round
will be.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
5) GAME FEATURES
THROWS
These are powerful attacks which always slam your opponent into
the ground. To do a throw, move up to the opponent, hold left
or right and press a strong punch or kick button (it depends
on which character you are using).
TAUNTING
Taunts are fairly pointless ways to mock your opponent. Press
the A and B buttons at the same time to do a taunt.
CROUCHING WALK
One unique aspect of the Fatal Fury series is the ability to
move (forward) whilst crouching. It lets you slowly move
toward your opponent and can (sometimes) be useful.
BACK DASH
To quickly get away from you opponent, double tap the
direction opposite to your opponent. Your character will do
a short dash back. You can do as many of these as you want
and are extremely useful to avoid close range attacks.
BLOCKING
Of most importance, blocking is where you character will not
receive damage from punches or kicks and little damage from
special moves. Simply hold the opposite direction from your
opponent to block.
FATAL FURY
This is an extremely powerful super move, and each character
has one. You can only do them when your health bar is
flashing, and if they connect with the opponent they can
literally take off around half of their health.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
CHARACTER MOVE LIST
The complete set of special moves and Fatal Fury moves for
each character, including the 4 boss fighters. All move
commands are listen as in the character is facing right,
reverse them when facing left. If you don't understand a
command, refer to the controls section. FF means Fatal Fury
for those of you wondering.
************
TERRY BOGARD
************
Power wave: QCF+P
A projectile attack which travels across the ground.
Burn Knuckle: QCB+P
Terry will dash forward, his fist full of power. It's an
excellent attack and upon connecting will smack the opponent
right back.
Rising tackle: D (charge) U+P
Terry does this flying spin kick which goes upward, and is
ideal to do when the opponent is jumping at you.
Crack shot: QCBX+K
This is an extremely fast kick attack which can frequently
take the opponent by surprise due to how fast it is.
FF: Power Geyser: GCB, HCF+A+B
A large energy burst which has poor horizontal range but
great vertical range, so always try doing it when you think
the opponent is going to jump at you or they are close.
***********
JOE HIGASHI
***********
Hurricane upper: HCF+P
A projectile attack which looks like a hurricane.
TNT punch: Press P rapidly
Joe will do a rapid combo of punches, and if you keep pressing
the button, finish the combo off with an uppercut. Only use
this move at close range, otherwise you are leaving yourself
wide open.
Tiger kick: QCFX+K
A flying knee smash which is great to hit opponents jumping
at you, but it does have a slightly long start up time.
Slash kick: DB, UF+K
A screen clearing kick attack which is farily good, and will
knock the opponent down.
FF: Screw upper: F, HCF+A+B
Like Terry's FF, this move has poor horizontal range but
excellent vertical range, so use it under the same condition as
Terry's FF.
************
JUBEI YAMADA
************
Rice cake attack: B (charge) F+P
A projectile attack made of...a rice cake? Yep, and for some
reason this attack works just as well as proper projectiles
like the power wave.
Spine crunch: D (Charge) U+P (CLOSE)
Jubei will grab the opponent and leap up into the air, taking
the opponent with him. He will then slam them into the ground.
Dash reverse throw: B (Charge) F+K
Jubei dashes at the opponent, and if he manages to grab them
he will throw them in the other direction.
FF: Super Spine crunch: DB (Charge) D, DF+A+B (Close)
Super and more powerful version of the usual spine crunch move.
***********
KIM KAPHWAN
***********
Flying slice: D (charge) U+K
A rip-off of Guile's flash kick move from Street Fighter 2.
Use this move whenever the opponent jumps at you to knock them
out of the sky.
Diving kicks: Whilst jumping, press Down and K
Kim will dive downwards, and if the opponent doesn't block, do
a series of quick kicks on them. Use this to annoy the opponent
as it's extremely effective, especially if you are both
jumping at the same time.
Half-moon slice: QCB+K
A flying splits kick. It can travel the screen quickly but
isn't as effective as his other 2 moves.
FF: Mega kick attack: QCB, HCF+A+B
Kim will dash forward and, upon connecting with the opponent,
proceed to do a massive combo of kicks, then finish them off
with a flying slice. This is the most spectacular looking
Fatal Fury in the game.
***********
ANDY BOGARD
***********
Fireball: QCB+P
A large projectile attack.
Dragon wing punch: QCF+P
Andy's take on Ryu and Ken's dragon punch and it works in
almost exactly the same way, it just looks slightly
different. This is still probably Andy's best move due to
the excellent range it has.
Shotgun kick: DB, UF+K
This is a arcing flying drop kick and is another extremely
useful move. If the opponent uses a projectile move, use the
strong kick version as you should dodge the projectile and
kick straight into the opponent, who can do nothing about it.
Dash elbow: DB, F+P
Yet another great move. Andy will dash forward and smash an
elbow into the opponent. It's extremely fast and you can do
them over and over again quickly.
FF: Super shotgun kick: D (charge), df, f+A+B
A more spectacular looking version of the shotgun kick.
********
BIG BEAR
********
Super drop kick: Hold K down for 5 secs then release
Bear will fly across the screen and drop kick the opponent for
big damage. It does take a while to charge up though so you'll
be on the defence for a while.
Giant bomb: DB (Charge) F+P
Bear will charge up and then charge into the opponent. Again,
this move has a long start up time but if it hits the opponent
will be knocked down to the ground.
FF: Fire breath: HCB, F+A+B
Bear will blast out a stream of fire at the opponent which has
weedy range but at close range can be devastating to the
opponent.
************
CHENG SINZAN
************
Fireball bomb: QCF+P
A projectile that travels in an arc like motion. It doesn't have
the greatest range and is somewhat slow, but due to the way it
travels you can often hit opponents who are jumping with it.
Belly blow: D (charge) U+P
Cheng will leap up and dive down at the opponent. Think of this
move as a slower version of Mai's death dive.
Spinning attack: B (charge) F+K
Another move ripped from Street Fighter 2, this time of Blanka's
cannonball attack. Cheng will spin like a ball straight into the
opponent.
FF: Fireball blaster: QCF, HCB,UB+A+B
A much more powerful version of the fireball bomb.
************
MAI SHIRANUI
************
Fan attack: QCF+P
Mai sends a chi powered fan at the opponent, think of this as
her take on a projectile move.
Dragon fire: QCB+P
Mai spins around using part of her costume to set fire to the
opponent. Mai can do this move very quickly and is a perfect
move to do when the opponent is at close range.
Ninja bee attack: HCF+K
Mai rolls and then leaps forward with a flying elbow smash
to the opponent. Possibly her weakest move, but is still a
fairly useful attack.
Death dive: D (charge) U+P
Mai will jump up then dive down at the opponent.
FF: Super deadly ninja bees: F, BD, F+A+B
A much more damaging version of the regular ninja bees.
**********
BILLY KANE
**********
Stabber: B (charge) F+P
Billy will stab forward with his pole. This move has
incredible reach so you should use it often, the opponent
will often think they are far enough away from you when
they aren't.
Flying spin: DB (Charge) UF+K
Jumping high into the sky, Billy will then land back down with
his pole swinging around beneath him in a spinning motion.
Stationary spin: Press P rapidly
Billy will spin his pole around, and if the opponent touches
the pole they will be damaged.
FF: Flame spin: QCF, HCB, UB+A+B
Billy will do the stationary spin move, but this time
generate a stream of fire. Billy then releases this fire as a
projectile which travels about 3/4 of the screen. This move
is great at close and long range.
*********
AXEL HAWK
*********
Flaming power punch: QCF+P
A projectile attack which looks like a red sonic boom -yes,
another moved ripped out of Street Fighter 2.
Smash bomber punch: DB (Charge) F+P
Axel dashes forward to punch the opponent. This move does a
good amount of damage and can be abused easily -as in doing
it over and over again.
Axel dance: Press P rapidly
This is a set of punches. You can only really use this move
at close range, if you intend it to hit the opponent anyway.
FF: Buster super combo: B, F, DF, D, DB, UF+A+B
This is a quick succession of 3 punches. It could have been a
great move, but it can be very difficult to pull off in
a fight.
**************
LAURENCE BLOOD
**************
Bloody saber: HCF+P
Blood will suddenly dash forward and stab the opponent.
It has good speed and so can be used to surprise the
opponent often.
Bloody cutter: D (charge) U+P
Jumping upward, Blood will then dive down to smash the
opponent on the head, A very useful move against a
crouching opponent.
Bloody spin: B (charge) F+K
Spinning into the opponent, this can result in a number
of hits and can be abused since you can do the move
quickly.
FF: Bloody Flash: DF, HCB, DB, F+A+B
A combo of stabs, you should only do this move when the
opponent is close to you.
****************
WOLFGANG KRAUSER
****************
High blitz ball: QCB+P
Krauser throws an fireball at the opponent that will set
them alight if it hits.
Low blitz ball: QCB+K
The same as the above attack, only that Krauser throws it
lower.
Leg Tomahawk: QCF+K
Krauser will do a flying kick at the opponent, which is
extremely useful for hitting crouching opponents.
Counter blow: HCF, UF+P
This is a counter move. Krauser will freeze for a moment,
and if the opponent hits him during this time Krauser will
grab and throw them.
FF: Kaiser wave: B (charge) UF+A+B
A very large wave projectile. Best used when away from the
opponent as it takes Krauser a while to actually do the move.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
7) BOSS CODE
To play as the four boss characters, as soon as the Takara logo
appears press the select button 3 times. There should be a
sound if you did it correctly. This code lets you use Billy,
Axel, Laurence and Krauser.
This seems to be the only code in the game, but if you know of
any others, e-mail me.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
8) FAQ
Was this game released in anywhere other than Japan?
As far as I know, no. GameFAQs has it listed for a North
American release as well as Japan, but I have never seen an
English language version of the game, and surely someone would
have found out by now (it is 12 years since this game was
first made!).
Is there a debug menu like in the Genesis version?
No.
Why do text boxes appear when I do certain moves?
Since there are no sound bytes (this is the Gameboy after all)
Takara had the idea of putting text boxes with text showing
what the character is saying when they do a move or taunt,
which is neat. Some are in Japanese, some are in English
(depends on the character).
What modes are there in the 2 player link up?
I have no idea since I am one of the only people I know
that owns this game around. I take it that it just has a
standard one on one fight, although there could possibly
be a team battle mode too, but I honestly haven't got a clue.
Since this game is Japanese, will it work on my...
This game will work on any Gameboy -all the Gameboy
units are multi-regional so you can play this on the classic
GB, GB Pocket, GB Color, GB Advance, SP, Micro and the
GB player for the Gamecube.
---------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------------
9) DISCLAIMER
Only GameFAQs and Neoseeker can use this FAQ. No other sites
can use it so don't bother asking, although with this game I
don't really think anyone would want to steal this FAQ.
