Question from Rockhead126

Why is the game crashing every time a dialogue box comes up?

A couple of months ago, I got Pokemon Red for a couple of bucks off of eBay. I put it in my Game Boy Color, and it seemed to be working at first, but crashed any time a dialogue box popped up. I tried putting it in my Game Boy player on my Gamecube, but it did the same thing, and I figured that it must be the cartridge. I know that it might be cheaper to just get another one, but please tell me if you know of a way to fix it.

Getting stuff off of eBay isn't a good idea. There's no way of knowing what you'll get. But that aside...

Try cleaning the game. Do NOT use water. I've learned that those compressed air cleaners for PC work good. I normally use alcohol with a soft cotton swab. Only use the ones without any oils! Alcohol evaporates fast and does little damage to the hardware. And when I say alcohol I mean rubbing alcohol. Not the drinking kind. Lol.

If that doesn't work make sure everything is firmly in place. If that doesn't work then there's nothing left for you to do... unless you know how to repair games, which I doubt since your posting here.

If nothing works then it's a data problem. You can always try contacting Nintendo support, but I doubt they will fix an out dated game. Never know though. And if not you can always look for someone who WILL try and fix it. I had sent my games to get fixed before (they were not fixed though by anyone associated with Nintendo.).

TacozRule is right though about the battery. But what you said doesn't sound like a hardware problem. More like a data problem.

Hope I helped.

There is no way to fix it. Sounds to me like the internal software is messing up. It's cheaper and much easier to just buy a new one at a local shop like Game Stop, or Game Crazy. They may not be in the best condition, but they do work.

Also: Many people like to sell old Game Boy games because they don't save, and turn off in the middle. There is a simple way to fix this, but it would be best to get someone to do it for you. It's just that the internal battery is dead, so any save data cannot be kept. Keep this in mind, and you can get one that works just fine.

I have had a similar problem through extreme Missingno corruption, although there have been a few reports similar to yours.

Your only option is to replace your cartridge, I'm afraid. The corruption can not be fixed.
