All the FAQs say you need to catch all 40 fish (39 fish +The Guardian) to gain access to the Fun Lake in the River King Color version, but once you do, the Fun Lake doesn't appear when you sleep in any of the Inns.

statusThe reason why the Fun Lake doesn't appear in the Color version when you collect all 40 fish is because the Color version has more than 40 fish. Once you collect all of the fish, you should get a message saying the "Fun Lake Appeared", then go and sleep in any Inn and you should get another message asking you if you want to go there. Say yes and you'll be transported there.
