"A great, hilarious game"
Introduction:
This review is for the game Wario Land II for the Nintendo Game Boy. This game is a 2D platformer made by Nintendo. The object of the game is to bust your way through the levels, through various bosses, and to collect your stolen treasures. Wario Land II was released in March 31, 1999 in the US. The Japanese version came out in October 21, 1998.
Graphics: 8/10
For a Game Boy game, Wario Land II has great graphics. For the most part, there is no blurriness in the characters, which brings out the hilarious cartoon elements. Wario is portrayed quite well with his smirk grin and his overweight figure. For the abnormal statuses, Wario looks hilarious! Enemy characters look awesome and have their own unique characteristics. The game has awesome backgrounds that show all the unique worlds Wario travels to. Overall, the graphics are very good and is one of the strong parts of this game.
Gameplay: 8/10
In this game, it is impossible to die, as Wario is immortal. While that is great as it players will not have to experience the infamous Game Over screen, some may think it is too easy. For the most part the difficulty is at a decent level. For the newer players, it is impossible to lose, as there is no Game Over screen. More experienced players will find the puzzles interesting to solve and baddie bashing addicting. Boss fights are quite entertaining as they are not too challenging, yet they are not way too easy. Some of the bosses are hilarious, especially the bunny boss in which you have to turn him into a basketball and shoot him into the net. Overall, great levels with originality and awesome, out of the ordinary boss battles makes the gameplay excel.
Sound: 8/10
The game has good music although it is not very complex as the Game Boy has difficulty with complex pieces. Most of the background music is quite memorable while sound effects act to the comic mischief theme. The great assortment of sound effects gives the game quite a laugh factor and is a good addition. Overall, the sounds act to the enjoyment of the game with all of its lightheartedness.
Other Comments:
Wario Land II is one of the better games for the Nintendo Game Boy. As such, it has good graphics with awesome gameplay. Rent or buy? Buy. This game is worth the money although it is probably somewhat difficult to get a copy today as it is from an outdated system. For those who still have doubts, you can try it out by borrowing it off a friend to see this game for its quality. Overall, a great game for the Nintendo Game Boy that is worth the time and money.
