Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan

Review by Chunkey Simmons

"It's a pretty good game for a Gameboy game."

Have you asked this to your self: do Ninja Turtle games usually hold action? Do they have weapons that you fight with and enemies you beat up? Does this game give you the tenacity to keep playing? Really, it is just your next new TMNT game, for the Gameboy. Not a bad thing, a lot of people liked the TMNT game for the NES and maybe some of the people that played the one for the Arcade. This game is a lot less confusing then the one for the NES, and a lot more of a platformer the the one for the Arcade. I remember getting this game a long time ago back when I was a lot younger, and I still occasionally today. The game with a funny name: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the foot clan.

Action, eh? How does this game hold action?

Honestly, it's not really super hardcore action. Really, it's just simple bad guys that appear and you do kicks, throw throwing stars, or hit them with your weapons. It's more advanced then jumping in their head, and boom he's dead. There's bad guys coming in front of you, behind you, on top of you, sometimes, in multiple spots. Some enemies have more then one hit, but almost all of them is one hit, and GAME OVER. Really, the action only holds a 7/10.

How are the graphics for TMNT?

Very good. This game has the best graphics of all of the games I have for the Gameboy. The game parallax scrolls in most levels with you don't find in very many Gameboy or NES games, the game shows every detail, when you jump in water, there's a splash. You will always know where you are because of the graphics. The only real thing not good about the graphics are the Turtles themselves. They all look the exact same. Also, some of the parts show the Turtles bigger then the road, and it looks fake. The graphics are still really good and well deserve a 10/10.

How would you rate the Layouts of the level?

In this case, I don't care about HOW they look, just about what way they are placed to guarantee fun. Really though, the capability of the game is a bit being pushed in this game, making the platform really good. However, parallax scrolling in my opinion is why there's no top blocks in the level. With gameboy and the NES, the only way a game can parallax scroll, is if there is no platforms in the way for it to parallax scroll. In this case, the game parallax scrolls, and that is the reason that there is no blocks at the top part of every level that does parallax scroll. I'm sure the company could have added some blocks on the top part of the level. It does not affect the game nearly at all, and I guess isn't necessary to add blocks on the top part of most level. Really, leaving it the way it is, it does not change the rating of it what so ever, it still contains a 10/10.

Is this game difficult?

Despite how short the game is, it is not as easy as it looks. You could easily loose all of your characters in one level, and then you have to start completely over, that's if you start from level one. Really, there is a few levels in the game, but you can choose what level you can go on. You can start at the beginning at level one, and you can start at the last level. It kind of ruins the difficulty of the game. Being the game all in one sitting, is not easy. I died at the bad guy at the second to last level, but I've beaten the game starting at the last level. The reason the game is hard is because, you may be focused on one enemy for whatever reason, but then some more come out of nowhere. It doesn't ruin the fun too bad, I mean you may hate a level and not want to do it. The thing I know is, it is not easy starting from beginning to end, nor is it easy to start at the last level with no talent. This surly needs an 8/10, it is difficult, but with practice, you can beat it in one sitting.

The controls are fine, correct?

The controls are perfectly fine. You won't find yourself jumping somewhere by mistake because of the controls, or pick the wrong thing in a mini-game because of the controls. They are all perfectly fine. They need no work. Or at least it isn't necessary, because they already have a rating of 10/10 anyway.

What are some things in this game that are fun?

Well, sometimes if you find a secret spot (some are obvious, some are not) in the game, you will be teleported to a mini-game which are fun to play. There's three mini-games all together. That can bring some excitement. Also, the action can determine it too, and I already gave out how much action there is. The game is basically just fun. I can't really explain why it is, it's just the layouts and the action really. If I were to rate this on a 1 to 10 scale, I would rate it a 9/10.

Hows the sound?

Meh, the sound is okay. I can't quite say why the sound is okay, it's just okay. It's fine for the game, and I'm sure it's as far as it's going to get. There's not really much to expect from a Gameboy, or even a Gameboy Color game when it comes to sound and music. Despite how the sound sounds like compared to other games, when you compare it to a normal Gameboy game, it's pretty good. A 9/10 would fit the sound gratefully.

If the sounds good, what about the music?

The music is pretty good. Try not to worry too much about how it's a Gameboy game, it still has good music in my opinion. As I said for the sound, It's really reached it's best at potential and seems perfectly fine to use for the game. I like the music, and it deserves a 10/10.

How long will it take to beat this game?

I've never really beaten this game starting from the first level to the last, but I have successfully completed every level (you can choose whatever level you want to start on) and if you to start from level 1 to the last level, it will probably take about 20 total. However, don't expect to actually beat it, it's not a very easy game.

Will I ever play this game again?

Of course. This game will not take you too much effort to beat, when you get the hang of it, it's a bit easier, and it is not at all stressful.

What is your overall recommendation?

I can't say that you will like this game, I don't have very many Gameboy games, they may have some that are ten times better then this one, but I don't know that for sure. I guess you should buy it, it is probably literally like 3 dollars at the most. You have nothing to lose, and unless a game is so terrible, any game at that price is pretty good to me. =)
