The Amazing Spider-Man

" The only amazing thing about this game is how bad it is!"

Before Rare was reknown as a great company all over the universe, it made some duds. The Amazing Spiderman is definitley one of them! It's no fun at all, and it wastes the liscensing of Spiderman so badly it's funny!

Graphics: 2/10

The graphics are just terrible. Rare did try to add detail into the backgrounds, but they failed miserabley. Sometimes Spiderman or the enemies may blend into the background because many of the characters have a dark color as well! Overall, it could've been wayyyy better!

Sound: 3/10

The sound effects were not at all impressive. They weren't screechy per say, but they were very bland and insignificant. I'd say they didn't spend more than 2 minutes on the sound effects. The music does kind of give the game a Marvel Comic feel to it, but it doesn't save the game, and normally it sounds pretty trashy after the 2nd or 3rd time you've heard it.

Gameplay: 1/10

Doesn't get any better here! The controls on Spiderman are awful. Spiderman moves okay, but when you tell him to jump or shoot he does it very slowly, and jumping is a little difficult to control in the first place! Most of the levels you just have Spiderman walk across the level, attacking any enemies he sees until you get to the boss. There is little innovation. There are some levels where you get to climb up walls, which is a cool idea, but it doesn't save the game (plus it's a little hard to control anyway.) The enemies often seem to have an advantage over you because Spiderman controls so awkwardly!

The challenge is high, but for the wrong reason. What makes this game so difficult is the terrible play control! If it had better play control, the game probably wouldn't have been so difficult.

Replay value?? Don't make me laugh!! After you've played the 1st level, you'll realize how terrible this game is, and you may never play it again!!

Overall: 1/10

One of those early Gameboy game horrors.
