Metroid II: Return of Samus
Review by BrainDog
"Different then the original but shines in its own special way"
9/10 Graphics- The graphics in this game are actually very good. Samus has good detail as well as do most of the enemies. The environments and backgrounds lack the same detail however. It is very easy to get lost because most of the backgrounds look the same. It is much easier to get lost in this game than in the original Metroid because of this.
6/10 Sound- This category isn't important to me because normally I turn down the volume on my game. Nonetheless the sound is just mediocre. Simple and basic music coupled with simple and basic sound effects produce not the most ideal listening conditions. Once again though this is the least most important thing to be so bad sound really doesn't bother me.
9/10 Control- The controls of this game hold to the same high quality of the original Metroid. All the moves are responsive and happen right when you press the button. I deducted a point though because when you do a flip jump it becomes hard to land right where you want to. Other than that though all the controls are great.
10/10 Game play- This is where all Metroids shine. Roaming through the game is easy and fun with plenty of secret passages to discover. Having to destroy Metroids adds a new twist on an already great formula. Metroids come in two different forms. One that just flies at you and one that has a whip like thing to attack you with. Most of the weapons and upgrades from the original Metroid are carried over to Metroid 2.
This game is a great addition to any game collection. It has platforming action with a puzzle and discovery twist. It takes the formula that made the original so successful and expands on it. Depending on how much time is spent exploring or getting stuck this game can take awhile to complete. This game is a very fun game.
