"Harvest Moon GB.... Not too bad!"

This game is a pretty good game. It is nothing compared to the Nintendo 64 version of it, but it is one of the best games on GameBoy I've ever played. It can get a little repetitive, but it still is pretty fun. The story isn't that extensive, but at least its something to go along with. The graphics are pretty good, for GameBoy. The music is pretty good, but listening to it day after day for an entire season gets a little annoying. It takes a while to get used to, and takes a lot of patience, but with a little practice, its easy to become an expert. The beginning is really hard, because you don't have a lot of money to use, so if you just try the beginning, and think its too hard, don't stop there. Just take your time and plan, and, after a while, you'll get a lot of money. I thought it was cool how you can make the milk you get from cows into cheese or butter, but it takes a few game years to get it. One thing I found disappointing, though, was that, unlike in Harvest Moon for SNES or N64, you couldn't get married. Here are the individual scores for everything:

Graphics: 9
In my opinion, the graphics were really good for GameBoy, but they weren't perfect. It was hard to tell if a cow was asleep or sick. Other than that, the graphics were fine.

Gameplay: 8
It was pretty fun up until the end of the second year. Then, it just gets boring. Nothing else to do, nothing to look for. But until then, its really fun. You have to figure out a way to get a ton of things done in one day. Also, I liked the feature of using the Cable Link to trade things.

Story: 5
This story was one of the worst I ever read. All it said is someone died and left you his farm, and you have to take care of it. Every once and a while, someone will come by to buy an egg or go to a picnic, but thats it. Nothing really good.

Sound: 7
The sound was pretty good. The music was cool for the first week in each season, but then it gets REALLY annoying. I just turned down the volume until the end of the season. There weren't really any other sounds, besides watering plants or harvesting them, so there's not much to judge.

Replayability: 5
There isn't really an end to this game, besides becoming a Ranch Master, which takes a LONG time to get. After that, there isn't that much to do. There's nothing to shoot for, nothing you have to save up to buy. It gets REALLY old REALLY fast after getting to Ranch Master.

To buy or to rent?

I would buy this game, IF you have played it before. Try to find someone that has it so you can try it out. It may have the same name as the N64 version, but it is different in many ways. But, if you buy it, it isn't too much money, and it takes more than 3-5 days to beat, so I doubt you'd be able to be able to do everything if you rent it.
