Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers - The Movie
Review by Antiyonder
"Pretty fun game."
Introduction- While it isn't a good as the Super Nintendo version, it is in my opinion better than the previous Power Rangers game on the Game Boy. It is of course based of the first Power Rangers movie.
Gameplay- Aside from the jumps being a slight bit hard in ranger mode and getting stunned after receiving damage, the game controls are fairly easy to get use to. Also as some may have stated, some rangers have a higher jump capability than other (Pink, Yellow and Black). Even then, controlling the jumps are fairly simple.
I do find it cool that you fight the previous five bosses again in stage 6. Unlike the first time you face them, you can even fight them while you're unmorphed if you're looking for a challenge.
To note, some parts of the stage aren't progressable unless you beat all of the area's minor enemies. The only downside with that is if the final enemy drops an item and it falls offscreen, then you have to wait for it to disappear before you can go further. 7/10
Challenge- I'd say the hardest parts are fighting Goldar and having to dodge the flamethrowers in the 6th stage while jumping the pits. The only other part that presents a real challenge would be in the mine stage where you have to make it to the end before a vehicle flattens you, then hopping from cart to cart (which can be hard in ranger mode if not timed right). 6/10
Story- Pretty much just the Power Rangers having to fight Ivan Ooze and his henchmen. Does use some characters (Rat and Queen Tengu) that were removed from the final draft of the movie. 2/10
Graphics- The rangers could look a little better, but do look much like their movie counterparts. Aside from that, the designs are spot on. 5/10
Sound- As good as any sound on a Game Boy game. My favorite is the theme music for the final boss. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers theme translated pretty well. 5/10
Replayability- There's nothing to unlock nor is there a secret ending to the game, but each ranger gives a different bit of dialogue when you beat the game. For the heck of it, you could try different rangers in different stages. Or try getting through stages unmorphed. 8/10
Final Recommendation- It is certainly not the best game out there, but it's ok and still fun. If you looking for just any game (especially if you're a Power Rangers fan), and you can spare the money, I'd say look for a copy and buy it.
But, then again, it's probably just the nostalgia factor talking. 8/10
