"Maybe not the worst game I've played, but certainly not worth my time..."

Ok, I played Battletoads in about 1994. I already reviewed this game and gave it a 1, so some of you may ask why the higher score? Well, it's because at the time I reviewed Battletoads I had not played the worst game ever. Now I have. That game, and I'm sure many of you will agree, is the NES' Hydlide. Everything about that game sucked. Battletoads, as lame as I think that game is, was much better. Even so, it was probably the biggest waist of money I've ever encountered. For one thing, I never got much pleasure from the thought of playing as a frog, and second...well...read on and I'll explain.

Audio 1-10. What, pray tell, is this? From the first second of play I did not like the music. It just got on my nerves and...well...annoyed me. The intro theme is the same in the NES version, and I didn't much care for it there either. Maybe it's the Gameboy's sound hardware, but I think it's just me not really liking the music. The sound effects aren't much better. I always had a crazy urge to turn the game down and usually did. For instance, when an enemy jumped it sounded like the sound guy got drunk and decided it'd be funny to use his hiccup as an effect in the game. Challenge 10-10. It's frustrating. Even the first level's tough. You get to a certain point, then there's this arm that like comes down and like smashes you, and I could never get past it because it was always too quick. I sold the game after like two months.
Story 5-10. Save your froggy sweetheart from the Dark Queen. When're they gonna ditch the save the chick stuff? It's getting really old if you ask me.
Overall 4-10. I give this game a higher score than I did last time I reviewed it only because I played that game which is the absolute worst game ever to disgrace the video game industry, Hydlide. Battletoads at least had good control and a somewhat interesting gameplay system, however average the system might be.
