Roger Clemens MVP Baseball
Review by RXavier
"It's the best Gameboy baseball but STILL sucks"
Even with the chance to play against friends when you're not home Gameboy baseball game usually did NOT sell well. The graphics were just too crappy, usually you can't even SEE what in the hell was going on, and there weren't really any games that kept track of stats. Well, Roger Clemems MVP Baseball was pretty BAD, but at least it was better than most of the other junky baseball games for Gameboy. It was the same as the Nintendo game, still NOT a GOOD game though.
Story - 2
Um, win a championship. Yeah or beat a friend. All baseball games pretty much are the same, you can play a friend or play a whole big long season but I don't know who would ever want to do that. Maybe it's just me but I could never stare at a small Gameboy game for long enough to play over one HUNDRED damn games. The games aren't even very fun, so there's no point. But if you want to, you can.
All the teams from real baseball can be used but some of the new teams like Arizona aren't here (DUH it was made twelve hundred years ago). The real players aren't really here but sometimes you can find nick-names or the names are spelled really close to how they're supposed to be. So you can PRETEND that it has real players even though it really doesn't. I think most games back then didn't though so it wasn't a big deal but now people might not like it.
Game Play - 4
Not too bad but gets boring like all baseball games. Hitting is very easy and you should be able to score a lot of runs, making the game way too EASY. Pitching is real easy too but fielding is different from most games. After the ball is hit the screen changes and you see stuff from standing BEHIND the fielders, usually you see stuff from in front but not in this game. This is really confusing for a while because I don't think ANY other baseball game does this, but it's different and thats cool and it's not THAT hard to get used to. Since you're behind everyone though you have to press different directions then usual making it hard to throw to bases. It's cool that you can dive and jump in the air and stuff though so fielding is a good part of the game.
There are also sometimes close-ups if a play is REALLY close, and the best part is you don't just watch but you have to play in the close-ups. If you're running you have to decide which way to slide and if you have the ball and you're fielding you have to decide where to tag. It's pretty cool but usually the computer wins which is really annoying. It's much better if you're playing against another PERSON, then they can't cheat like the computer.
Sound - 1
Very very bad music and stupid Gameboy sound. Turn the volume ALL THE WAY down and put away those Gameboy headphones because you won't need them in this game. The only thing that sounds cool is the crowd but the sounds aren't realistic enough.
Graphics - 2
Not too bad for Gameboy. Most Gameboy baseball games sucked because the players usually all looked like Mario but not this one, they're big and realistic looking. The close-ups also look really good and you usually don't see close-ups like that in Gameboy games. The field looks crappy though even Gameboy should look better, like more details instead of just lines. You can't see the back wall either since you're behind the players which is weird, you never know when a ball is going to be a home run.
Conclusion - 4
It's better than most of the other Gameboy baseball games but why would you want a Gameboy baseball game anyway??? Well if you do want one get this the fielding is pretty cool, but it still isn't great. Better than the others though.
