The Addams Family: Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt
Review by Eastpolar
"Save yer family with only Jumping???"
I don't know what these producers and game-developers of Ocean thought when they made this game, although it is released back in 1991 (pheew!) you can't say that it was a good game back then. Everybody knows the original platform games, like Super Mario Bros. Actually, this game isn't much more (and a lot less) than other platforms, it brings nothing new (what is hard for a platform game, I think). But when you decide to make a platform (what has to be done when there has been released a move for 'kids'), please make some refreshing gameplay or an very original story line, both are not seen in The Addams Family 2 (because that's just what it is, a pathetic sequel to The Addams Family.
In fact this game isn't still as bad... when you play it on holidays, it'll keep your ass from the grass some time. When you're a platform lover, you won't love this game, but it'll do. I'm for sure that normal (or hardcore) gamers without a pre-love for platforms won't ever gonna like this game.
The game is build up in a house with seven doors (a bit like Super Mario on N64, to give you an idea), you have to go in six of those doors to collect candy, when you've got all of this candy, you can go in the seventh door on your way to save your family, the rest is up to you, but I don't think anyone will ever play this game after 1995 (hehehe)...(except from ROMs)
Graphics 6/10
The graphics are not bad, but just how you expect them to be for a platform, neither spectacular or insufficiently, just average. There aren't nay background drawings to give you an idea of what it looks like. I don't know why they have made Pugsley so bad, in the movie he was a fat, blond HUMAN boy. In the game he doesn't look HUMAN at all, he isn't fat either. He has got blond hair, although what can be called blond in a GB game. He has got Alien eyes, really freaky. Some of your enemies are well made, the ghosts for example are way down, but the 'Zombie-look-a-likes' are very funny and well drawn.
Normally I have a section called sound, but I leave it away with GB (GBC) games.
Gameplay 3.6/10
The gameplay is the second worst part of the game (after originality). You don't have to use the 'B' Button for a long time, actually you don't need it at all (maybe at the end, I haven't fully completed the game once). You can jump with 'A' and that's it. But this jumping is so weird, Pugsley will jump too high and less far. When you want to evade 'missiles' Pugsley will jump too high and when he lands you get almost ever hit.. not when you jump forward or backwards, but still. You can't jump low by just pressing it for a short time. After playing it for a while I couldn't get my hand on the game relaxed.
Originality 2.4/10
This part of the game is so bad you're gonna cry. First, it looks exactly like the first Addams Family, bit what better graphics. Second, there are already so many games made that look exactly like this (but have better graphics or story or something). This game hasn't actually got a story, in fact you only know this when you pause the game or read the manual, when you just start playing the game, you have no idea what to do (that's what I did :). When you pause the game you'll see a menu that says: ''You have rescued: Nobody'', so I found out (I don't read manuals).
Lastability 5.4/10
This game is a platform and platform games just won't be played that long. Especially not when there aren't any hard-medium-easy levels. When you have completed the first house, you'll be busy somewhat longer afterwards, but the game should be finished within 2 hours (when playing for the second time).
After all, I shouldn't buy this game at all. There are many better platform games.
