Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of the Foot Clan

Review by Saikyo Ki

"A good action game, albeit kinda short."

I was a huge TMNT fan when I was a kid, so I thought this game was the best in the world back then. Today, I see the game as a fun action game. The people that say that this game could have been even better are correct, but if you like side scrolling brawling games and/or like the TMNT, chances are you'll want to purchase this.

Story: 7
Beat Shredder and Krang, save April, blow up the Technodrome. Nothing new. :)

Gameplay: 7
Progress in a straight line, defeating all the enemies you come across. Just like in TMNT for the NES, you can be any turtle you wish, but if one of them gets captured (dies), you won't be able to save them. Sadly, all four turtles are about equal in strength in this game, whereas in the NES version each turtle was good for something. The enemies and bosses are straight from the cartoon, as always. You heal by eating pizza, as always. There aren't that many levels in the game, but thankfully the levels are slightly longer than normal levels. The game is still not that long, however. You can pick any level to start out on, so if you're playing through the game for the first time you can use this as a save feature. To get the best ending, however, you have to play the game from the very beginning.

One neat thing the Turtles are able to do is throw shuriken when they are crouching down. They also jump kick like in most games.

Another interesting thing about this game are the bonus mini games. They are hidden in the first few stages and are quite fun.

Graphics: 8
Everything is nicely detailed, from the in game sprites/backgrounds to the between stage intermissions. Everything is large and well animated, as well. Great graphics for a 1st generation GB game.

Sound/Music: 9
The effects are just like the ones from TMNT1 for the NES; nothing is wrong with them. The music in this game is actually very good! Most of the music in the game sounds like something you'd hear on the actual cartoon show. The stage 2 music sounds EXACTLY like one of the songs on the cartoon show! It's pretty amazing!

Control: 10
Hack and slash, crouch, shoot shuriken, jump, jump kick. No problems here at all.

Replay Value: 2
Unless you haven't played all the bonus games/want to play them again or haven't beaten the game from start to finish so you can see the best ending, you won't wanna play it again (at least not for a long while).

Bottom Line?
TMNT fans probably have this game already and drool over the awesome music like me. If you like action/brawl games, you will want to give it a try, if not buy it. It's a decently fun game and the mini games are pretty neat, which is why I give it a 7.
