"Does this guy really need any more money?"
Well, here we go again. Our old friend Scrooge McDuck, the richest duck in the world, is on a new quest to become even richer. But this time, there's even more treasure to find, including the Secret Treasure of McDuck, hidden long ago by Scrooge's ancestors. He won't stop there, however.
It all starts when Scrooge's nephews find an old map piece in the basement, and show it to Scrooge. Once he realizes what it is, he decides to go on a trip all around the world to find the other pieces of the torn-up map. And on the way, he'll be sure to snatch up any treasure he finds!
His trusty all-purpose cane is back to help in the quest, with all of its Pogo-Jumping, Golf-Swinging power. Now, he can even latch onto boxes and levers with it and pull them! Pretty fit for an old duck...guess the money keeps him going...
With all this stuff in one little cane, you'd think you're all set, right? Not if you want to find any REAL treasure!
Gyro the inventor has developed a few special adaptors to increase the power of Scrooge's Pogo Jump, Golf Swing, and Pull. If you thought he was tough before, wait until you see him pull a block twice his size!
Gyro alone won't help you find the treasures, however. Other characters are hanging around just waiting to help you. Huey, Dewey, and Louie can give you clues to puzzles needed to gain access to map pieces or secret treasures. Launchpad is also waiting to give you a lift back to Duckburg, where you can deposit your money.
As I said, you'll have to solve puzzles and find hidden passages to retrieve all of the Map Pieces. Once you finally do, you'll get to go to the secret cave, which is full of treasures and money, including the Secret Treasure of McDuck!
Scrooge's ultimate goal: Find all of the treasures and retain his title of Richest Duck in the World! But guess who else is after Scrooge's treasures...
Now for the scores.
Story: (7/10) Not too bad. Better than the last one, which had much less of a story. The Secret Treasure intro bit makes this one a little better.
Graphics: (7/10) I don't expect much out of a Gameboy game, but this one wasn't too bad. The characters, especially the enemies, are well detailed. The worlds are pretty well designed. I particularly liked Mu and Bermuda, with its rain effects in the background. Egypt has a bit of slowdown in one area, which was a minus, though a small one.
Sound: (8/10) Again, I don't expect much of the sound of a Gameboy game, but this one did pretty well. Nice music in Bermuda and the last stage, along with the Scotland theme, which fit the ''sneaking in the mysterious castle after dark'' level just fine. Sound effects were pretty basic, though. Not much change from the original there, with the ''plop'' for jumping and the weak falling-type sound for defeating enemies.
Gameplay: (8/10) Hasn't changed much since the last game, but it was pretty good there too. You still use the Pogo and the Swing, and other such things. The power-up feature was a welcome addition.
The puzzles were also a good feature. Took me a while to figure some of them out, though. Also a few good items, like the XRay Glasses, that see invisible items, and the time-stopping clock.
We also see the return of the separate difficulty modes, which are great for those who want a little extra challenge. I haven't finished Difficult yet...
Challenge: (7/10) The challenge depends on the game difficulty. Of course it'll be easy if you use the Easy setting (hence the name), but the Difficult mode will take some doing before you actually finish. Plus, there's no save, so you'll have to do it all in one sitting. May be a minus for some, but not all.
Replay: (7/10) Again, this one depends. If you didn't manage to find the Secret Treasure of McDuck, of course you'll have to play through again to find the map. And there's still those other hidden treasures.
Plus, if you beat it once on Easy, you'll want to give the other difficulties a try.
And there you go. If you need a game that'll keep you busy for a bit, this'll do it. If you have a copy of the NES version (and a working NES), you might not want this one, but who knows. It's just as good travel size.
